Hey guys, it's Karl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.com.
Today we're going to do Rockin' Me by the Steve Miller Band.
So this is a fun one.
It's going to be a nice short lesson.
Not too hard to play, mostly power chords, fun stuff.
All right, so let's start here with this intro which is heard a couple of times in the [A] song.
We're going to start with a power chord here at the 5th fret off the low E string.
Play twice, quick little down up, [B] and then up to the 7th fret.
And you kind of slide that down after you play it.
All right, then back up to the 7th fret here, you're going to play that power chord again,
then over off the [A] 5th string, that power chord off the 7th fret on the 5th string, and [B] then
back down to the 6th, [A] and slide back down.
So we have this so far.
[B]
[E] [B]
So that down, and we come up to this cool little hammer on [E] lick.
[B] All right, so that is just going to be a bar at the 9th fret across the G, D, and the A string.
Now what you're going to do is you're going to pick the A [G#] string, [E] hammer on the 11th fret,
and then do an upstroke [B] on the G and the [E] D.
So they all [B] come together [E] like, and [C] then back
to the, you're going to [B] end the riff with the power chord of the 7th fret again, slid down.
[A] So we have this all together.
[B]
[E] [B] [N] [E]
[B] [C] [A] And then start over.
[B]
[E] [B]
[E] So you're going to do this part three times, that whole riff.
Now here we're going to, they lead [B] into this, sometimes a little weird sometimes, like.
[A] So just really listen for it.
It's between those two chords there, and you see how that riff starts.
It's kind of odd how they go into it sometimes throughout the song.
And then we have this little thing that ends it.
[Bm] [B] [A]
So now this is going to be, you know, sometimes when you see him play it live, [Bm]
[B] [G#] he'll do it
with an open D string, but on the recording, you can hear vibrato on it.
So we're going to do it like that.
So it's obvious he's playing it like that on the recording.
So second fret on the [A] low E, then the open A, [B] then 2, then that [D] 5th fret, [A] back to-2. [B] So [F#m] it's this. [Bm] [A] [B] [F#] Repeat [B] it. [D] [B] Alright, and now we just have the verse, which is pretty simple, just three power chords. [N] So that's it. It sounds like this. [Am]
[E]
[A] [B]
Alright, so it's just three different chords, all power chords, [G#] starting here, second fret, off the 5th string, just kind of muted, then the [Am] open A power chord, and the open [E] E power chord, and then you're back to the D power chord [G] that started it. [B] Alright, now we have this chorus that is done. You can play it up here, which it sounds like he's doing it on the recording because you can hear him [E] slide into this part, which is, that part happens later in the song as well. But it kind of sounds like this. [B] [A] [Am]
[E] [B]
[A] [B]
Alright, so we have that little melody line in there during the chorus. Same chords, so it's just, you're going to play this chord instead of here, but here, which you can play either or during the song. You can still do this here. [A] [B] But it's basically, you're going to be playing the power chord, and then [E] to end it with, [B] that's the 6th fret on the D to the 7th fret on the D, you're going to be muting that A [E] string in there. [B] And then we're going to take it, [Bm] so we have this, [E] [B] [A] then the A power chord, [E] just open A and [Am] the 2nd fret on the D together, and then [F#m] [Am] 4-5 on the D, still with [E] that open A in there. And then the same thing down here. [E] [B] And then back. [E] [B] And back to that riff that we did in the intro. Now, once again, you can do that chord here. [D] [Am] Now sometimes, you'll hear them actually, they still do the same melody at the end of it, but they'll go, [E]
and I'm making it that Chuck Berry thing. [A] [E] [E] [B]
[Bm] [N] Alright, so the verse and the chorus are the same except for that little melody that is added to the chorus, and then we have that intro riff that happens a few times. And there you have it. That's all the parts that you need to know for Rockin' Me. It's a lot of fun. I'll see you again soon for guitarlessons365.com
