Hello, my [N] name is Damian from DamianBocci.com and welcome to today's Rockabilly Guitar Lesson.
Today we're going to be looking at Buddy Holly once again and I'm going to show you today
a solo that's loosely based around the song Rock Around With Ollie V.
This is going to
be fun.
Let's do it.
Let's get into it.
Let's go.
[Em]
[A]
[C] [D] [D#]
[A] [E]
[A]
[C]
[A] [D#] [F#m]
[E] [A]
[N]
Alright now to play this lick we start on our B and E string and we're going to be on
our B string on the 10th fret and the E string we're going to be on the 9th [A] fret.
So 10th
fret on the B string and 9th fret on the E string and we just strum like this.
[Am] And we
slide up on the B string on the 13th fret and the 12th fret on the E string.
So basically
we're just keeping the same position we're just [A] sliding up.
[Am]
[G#] Just like that.
So 13th fret
on the B string and 12th fret on [C] the E string.
Now [A] I've seen people they like to kind of
[Am] [A]
bend up a little bit.
On this guitar I just don't.
I just kind of keep it the same.
[C] Maybe
I'll give it a little bit of a push.
[A] But it's up to you.
You feel it how you want to do
it.
So anyway.
[C]
And then the next part is we're just putting our finger on the 3rd fret [D] on
the B string and the 5th fret on the E string.
So it's.
[D#] And what we're doing there is we're
putting our finger on the 4th fret on the B string.
Keeping our finger on the 5th fret
still on the E string.
Just [D] like that.
[D#] [N]
So now just a quick review.
[G#] It's just.
[C]
[D] [D#]
[A] Now we
go right into an 8 chord.
And what I like to do there [F#m] is [A] put my pinky on the 7th fret
on the B string.
[F#m] [A] Just like that.
[F#m]
And then we'll go into an E7 [E] chord.
And I'll just strum
it like that.
Now let me go over the notation of this chord.
On the A string you're going
to play the 7th fret.
On the D string you're going to play the [G#] 6th fret.
[D] On the G string
you're going to play the 7th fret.
And on the B string [E] you're going to play the 5th
fret.
And it's played just like that.
See my [F#] fingering on [E] there.
And I'll just strum
it like this.
[A] [E]
[A]
Just like that.
[F#m] [E]
[A]
[E] Now what I'll do there is when I go back from the E7.
Now
when I come back from the E7 I'll
[A]
just play the A like that.
Now what you can also do
when you come out of it.
[Am]
[Dm] [A] You can do it a lot easier like this.
[E] [A]
Now I [G#] wouldn't think that
was cheating necessarily.
It's a lot easier to do and if I saw somebody doing it live
I wouldn't think anything less of them.
Because we all know the [A] gist of what's happening there.
It's not really a big deal.
And that's just strumming [F#m] that A chord with putting your finger
on the 7th there.
[A] [D#]
And that's just strumming putting your finger, pinky on the 7th fret
on the B string.
And [E] the E7.
[A]
Just like that.
[E] [A]
[N] And just experiment with that.
And now the next part.
Here's the middle part.
[A]
[C#m] [D]
[D#m] [A] [F#m] [E]
[A]
Alright now to play this part on the E string
we're going to be on the 5th fret.
[C#] On the A string we're going to be on the 4th fret.
[A] So it's [C#m]
slide up [G#] to the 9th fret on [C#] the E string [A#] and the 7th [C#m] fret on the A string.
[A] So
that's.
[C#m] [D] And the next part is this.
[D#m] [D] And what we're doing there is playing on the 5th fret
on the A string.
4th fret on the [C#] D string.
[D#m]
And we're going to slide up [D] on the 5th fret
to the [Cm] 6th fret there on the A [D] string.
And we're going to [C] keep our finger [D] still on the
4th fret on the D string.
[B]
[A] And then back to the A.
[E]
E7.
[A]
[G#] Alright.
[N] Now at the end of this video I have an acoustic guitar background rhythm track on here that
you can play the solo that I taught you today over that.
That accompanies that.
So have
fun with that and I hope that helps.
And talk to you guys soon.
[Am] [C#] [A]
[D] [B] [A]
