Robert Johnson Lesson: Crossroads (Intro) Pt. 1 chords
Start Jamming...
So today's video will [D] be an instructional video on how to play Robert Johnson's song called Crossroads.
And to play this song, you'll have to get your guitar into [F#] Spanish open G.
And this [F] starts [D] with a low D, [G]
G, [D]
[G] [B]
and a [D] high D.
[G] And then you'll have to just capo the fourth fret.
[B] So to [D] play Crossroads, you'll almost have to play the slide on your pinky finger just
to be able to reach into the upper registers of the guitar, unless you're going to play dobro style.
But otherwise, if you're going to play with the guitar upright, you're almost going to
have to play with your pinky.
So Robert Johnson starts with a slide on the top string into the 16th fret.
[B] So [C] there's that slide on the top [G] string, and then a double stop with the top two strings
at the [B] 16th fret.
And then there's a slide [Bm] up to the 16th fret [A] again, but this time it's [Bm] with the B string.
[B] And then you hit the G string.
[D] So altogether that's
[B]
[G] Then Robert Johnson from the 16th fret slides down, picking it first, [F#] just like that.
[D] And you'll want to get that sound of the [N] slide coming down.
And you'll bring down the slide until about the sixth or seventh fret, [Em] after which you'll
slide into the eighth fret on that G string.
And then hitting it open.
So that's [Bm] again
And it's really [D] important to get that downward sound and then that upward sound of coming
[Bm] into the note if you want to get an accurate sound of [C] Robert Johnson.
And then the bottom A string
Or pardon me, the bottom G string is hit [B] open.
And following this, there's that typical Robert Johnson turnaround where you fret the seventh
fret of the D string [F] and [B] have an open G string [A] right above it.
And what you do is you just chromatically descend with your [B] finger on the fretted note.
[F#]
So of course you just [Bm] come chromatically down with that G string remaining open throughout
the entire lick.
Then [D] what he plays is a slide on the bottom [G#] G string into [Em]
the eighth [D] fret and then immediately
after playing the open D string.
[F#]
And then finishing with the low D.
[G#m]
So again, altogether [A#] slow.
[B] [F#]
