Alright guys, this is Amos Storm Music and in today's lesson, I'm going to teach you
how to play Never Gonna Stop by Rick Astley on the piano.
Give you a preview before we start learning it.
It's the catchy chorus section.
Goes like this.
[Bb]
[F] [Cm]
[C]
[Bb] [F]
[Cm]
[Bb]
Alright, so you [Gm] can hear some traces of the Never Gonna Give You Up.
They're kind of like
[G] motive, okay?
So where it goes, [G] okay, the first [Abm] three notes.
But anyways, pretty awesome.
Let's go ahead and break it up into parts to learn it easily, okay?
So we'll break it up into four parts.
So the first part, right hand starts [C] on the F, middle C, C, A, go up to the F just above it.
[G] So it goes F, G, Bb, C, D, D, [Ebm] C, Bb, and then you repeat that whole phrase for a [G] second time.
F, G, Bb, [C] C, D, D, C, Bb.
That's it for the right hand.
So [Eb] there's 16 notes, but essentially it's just 8 notes played twice, okay?
[G] So F, G, Bb, C, D, D, C, [F] Bb, F, [D] G, Bb, C, D, D, C, [Gm] Bb.
That's it for the right hand.
Left hand, we have two chords.
They are [Bb] Bb major, which is Bb, D, F, and [Am] F major, which is F, A, C.
So with these two chords in [Bb] mind, so Bb major [Am] and F major, the [G] two hands together goes like this.
The right hand starts after C, Bb major by [Bb] itself.
Right hand continues.
Right hand [G] continues.
C, after C, F major by itself.
Right hand continues.
That's it for the first part.
Let's learn it once again.
So it goes [Bb] here.
[F] Yeah.
Then we'll go [Ab] on to the second part.
Right hand continues.
It goes G up to Eb and then four [D] Ds.
One, two, three, [Cm] four, C, G, [D] Eb, D, D, D, D, [C] C.
So you can see it's like a repeating phrase as well here.
Just where it [Cm] goes G, Eb, [Gm] and then four Ds, [Cm] C, and repeat that phrase.
[G] [Cm] All right.
Left hand, we have two C minor chords, which is C, Eb, G.
So just two of them.
Okay?
So with those two in mind, the two hands together goes like this.
So right hand starts and then skidad, skidad.
That's it for the second part.
Let's learn it once again.
So it goes skidad, skidad.
That's it for the second part.
So back to back, the [G] two parts of the line so far will be played like this.
[Bb] [G]
[Cm]
Something awesome happens next.
[G] The third part is exactly the same as the first part.
So back [Bb] to
[F]
And then this fourth and last part is very similar to the second part.
In fact, it's pretty much the same, but we added some extra stuff to finish [Cm] off the whole phrase.
So same here.
And then right hand, you add three notes.
Bb, G, [Gm] Bb.
And then finish with a Bb [Bb] major chord on the left hand.
Just like that.
So yeah, it's pretty much exactly the same as the second part, all the notes, but just
to finish off the phrase, you just add [Gm] Bb, G, [Bb] Bb and Bb major chord like that.
Okay?
So like [Cm] this.
[C] C, Bb, G, Bb [Bb] and Bb major.
That's it.
So back to back, all four parts of this lesson will be played [F] like this.
[Bb]
[G] [Cm]
[G] [Bb] [Am]
[Cm]
[Bb] There you go.
So once you get the melody and block chords of this all good, you can start to add your
own improvisations and decoration [N] patterns to make your own version.
So left hand you can do octave, bass note and arpeggios,
[F] rhythmic patterns,
[Cm]
[Bb] that kind of [G] thing.
And right hand, you get to harmonize on the chords to make it thicker in textures.
Play around.
[Bb]
[F] [Cm]
[Bb]
[F] [G] [C]
[Cm]
[Bb]
Yeah, play around and have fun.
[B] Okay?
Awesome song.
Very catchy and very nice.
Okay?
