Richie Sambora - Today Show - November 04 - 2013 chords
Start Jamming...
in the world Bon Jovi or is he?
He's not playing with them at the moment and there are plenty of rumors as to why.
Was he sacked?
Did he quit?
Will he be here with the band next month?
[F] Richie Sambora is in Melbourne for the Cup and [Gb] I took the opportunity
to find out exactly what's happening.
[C]
[D] Now the boys from New Jersey [C] who've been living on a prayer for
30 years, they've sold over [D] a hundred and thirty million [B] albums
[E] and countless [B] shows around the world, often [Abm] touring for over a year [Gb] at a time.
I'm still [Abm] on the road, still in my [E] bed, I'm [Gb] still sleeping all [B] night.
But just a few months ago fans were [Abm] stunned to learn that Richie Sambora
was not on [Gb] tour with Bon Jovi.
[B] So what's going on?
I just [Abm] decided man, 30 years, you gotta figure 24-7.
I think when people don't understand exactly what that means,
24-7, 30 years, you don't get to come home.
There's a huge sacrifice in that, you know.
I missed a lot of my daughter's life,
a lot of her stuff.
There's all sorts of [G] speculation as to what happened.
I mean,
was there a blue?
Was there an argument over money?
No, no, no.
No, it was just like basically,
I mean, I can't say I was burnt because I wasn't burnt.
Honestly, I mean, I went out for the first leg of the tour, I had no idea this was going to happen.
And I just started spending time with my kid between legs
and my spirit wouldn't pull myself out of the door.
I just needed to be home.
I mean, you know.
Are you going to be back?
I think so.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
I don't think it's going to be the end of the
band or anything like that, you know.
I certainly have no malice.
The other theories are that, you know, John's the family man and Richie's the party boy.
Is there a bit of a fight between those two kind of?
Actually, I've been sober [Cm] for like almost eight years.
I mean, obviously I've had my [F] girls, you know, anybody who has a [G] lifestyle for,
you know, 30 [F] years of pretty [Bb] rock and roll stuff,
you know, it takes you a while to break those [G] habits.
I've been doing it for like eight years now.
I'm in [Ab] good shape.
I thought you were going to give me the [B] world exclusive telling me about that night that you
and [D] John had the big fight.
That's it, man.
That's it.
Yeah, there was none of that.
Yeah, I would tell you.
I would tell you.
But there was really none of that, you know.
You know, being in a band for 30 years,
there's always ups and downs and people have differences of opinion and also
differences of pace.
I mean, I really needed to take some time to be with my daughter.
She needed me [A] and I needed [G] her actually, too.
So, [D] you know,
[D] the pace of
[A] what was happening and [Dm] how quickly it was happening,
you know, I thought maybe we should took more time from the last tour into this tour and stuff
like that.
So, you know, there was differences of opinion.
Nothing's ever going to be perfect.
Richie's 16 year old daughter is Ava, her mother, Hollywood actress Heather [A] Locklear.
You know, we've always had a good [Bm] relationship.
I mean,
from the time she was little, I was always myself, you [D] know, I kind of never talked down to her.
I was just me, you know, so it didn't really change much.
[C] And it's interesting.
And I'm very,
very lucky [G] because I rarely have to reprimand her.
She [F] reprimands herself.
[D] It's interesting.
I taught her a lot of morality, I think, and I try to give her tools of how to grow up and how to
deal with certain situations.
I do pride myself [G] as a very good dad, I really do.
So Richie Sambora [D] goes from sex, drugs and [E] rock and roll to world's best dad and saving the planet.
Some of it.
Yeah.
[G] You know, it just morphs into whatever it is.
Well, mate, have a great day.
Thank you very much.
I'm looking forward to it.
It's wonderful to have you back in the country.
Ah, it's great.
[D] I just wish you were coming back next [G] month.
[D] Ah, [G]
yes, Bon Jovi [Ab] will be here next month, sadly, without Richie, who will be trackside
at [D]
Flemington today as a guest of Lavazza.
[E] We want to thank them and also Crown Metropole
for [D] helping us out with that interview yesterday.
So that is sad [C] news for Bon Jovi fans that Richie
is not coming back, but he's [C] definitely taking a sabbatical, but says it's not the end of the line
and [E] hopefully we'll be back [G] with the boys one day.
The fact that he's in the Lavazza tent probably
says a lot about where he's at.
He's just having coffee now.
Yeah, it's just not the right [Cm] part.
[D]
But you can't [C] understand, you know, some of those tours went [D] for a year and a half.
They're on the
road for a year and a half.
And as he says, when you get back home, people have been [B] born,
people have [Bm] died.
And when you've got a 16 year, 16 and a half year old daughter,
she needs dad and he needs her.
Yeah, it's completely understandable and an excellent
dickie league.
It was.
[D] Well, thanks to Richie.
I hope you enjoy your time at the cup today.
[A] Masked Marvel, Richie [Em] is the one to get on number 14 barrier too.
[Eb] Oh, is [Gb] that from an Eyes Wide
