There's nothing [E] like that feeling of recording new [D#] music and having, [F] hearing [Bm] it live for the first time, you know.

Born Again
[C#]
DW, the bass player from New York, he [B] picked [E]
myself, No Idea and Kevin [D#m] up from a [C#] memorial service for someone that [F#] they'd lost quite recently
[C#] and I just thought he was the driver.
He thought I was the driver.
I went to go pick them up from a little bar that they were [B] hanging out at
and I dropped them off at the studio and I didn't want to leave my bass in the car so I just brought it upstairs with me
and he just laughed the [C#] whole time because he didn't really think I was a bass player.
[G#] And I said to him, man, I really, [G] I want a driver like you, I want a driver that can play bass, [F#] you know.
But they'd arranged [B] all this and [F] he was there then, 5 o'clock in the morning, [E] first take, bass, so.
[F#]
[C#]
[G#] Steve Weinman
[C#] is [B] one of the younger of the Cutting Crew, he's about 26, 27.
[C#] I had toured the R&B segment with No Idea's keyboard player.
[F] Fabulous guitarist, worked with lots of soul, R&B, hip-hop guys.
They needed a guitar solo on Are You Ready?
[B] So they called me and they were in New York, I was in LA.
Seeing Steve play Are [D#] You Ready?
and seeing the way he can play his [E] guitar, he [C#] can play wonderful like Steve Cropham or Curtis Mayfield.
Any of the influences I was bringing and [E] talking about, all the tones of guitar, [B] he was with me on.
But I happened to [G#] have a show on David Letterman out there, [C#] maybe two days after they had called me for the session for [F] Richard.
And so I just flew out there, did the TV show, [B] got off the plane and went straight to the studio, cut Are You Ready?
in one take.
And then Richard was like playing the whole album.
[G#m] So when Steve played Are You [E] Ready?
and a couple [F] of the songs, I thought if we [E] do go out and play live, this guy deserves to be on [G#] the right hand side of me, [C#] right up front.
[B] And then after that, he was [G#] kind of mentioning that he wanted me to go on the road with him.
So I did.
[C#] I got real, when your heart is broken, [B] like a heart broken by two [F#] skittles.
[C#] Steve called me and he was like, he came to the Bay in California where we live.
We played a gig [G#] and he was like, I might have a potential rock gig for you in the UK.
I was like, cool, you know, [F#] let's do it.
[C#] Richard is the coolest dude you'll ever meet in life, ever.
He's the coolest guy to work with.
He [D#] makes everything a lot of fun.
Whatever I could do to keep them laughing as well at the [F#] same time.
Because a lot of the time [G#] there's a lot of humor in there.
The humor [C#] keeps this session going and keeps [D#] people awake, keeps people alive and up for it.
[B]
[F#] Why lose him?
Why lose him?
Why lose him?
Why lose [C#] him?
Who will be spitting in the hell I went?
I've known Richard for 10 years, so I've played with him [B] loads.
So yeah, a little while ago I sort [F#] of asked if I was interested in joining and [C#] sort of be part of the band and be part of the whole set up.
My soul, my body, [B] my mind, my body, my soul, my body, [F] my mind, my body.
That's perhaps where the [E] United Nations of Sound and giving [D#] these guys and this [E] idea and this concept a name came [C#] from.
United Nations of Sound is about fusing the influences of the world really, [B] not just [G#] English music or just American [F#] music.
Everyone comes from different places, different kind of [D#] [C#] experiences in the past.
Definitely heavenly influenced by Richard's style, but with our touches and our influence on top of it.
Some of the stuff is [G#] real leaning towards [B] some old soul stuff like Curtis Mayfield.
Other [F#] stuff is pretty heavy.
You know, these guys are making a leap themselves [G] out into the [C#] unknown, working with a guy like me who you could say comes from a rock and roll type background.
But also [B] embracing it and enjoying it as well because I think all genres, all [F#] hip hop, we all [G#] reach brick walls at [C#] certain points.
We all reach points where it feels like, what can I do to freshen it up for myself?
