Often listen to a lot of contemporary Christian music and I'm not always sure I get why
because I play it and I know there's not a lot to most of it and
[G] [D] [C]
Sometimes it concerns me, you know [G] the number of people that can quote my songs and
Or they can quote the songs of several different people, but they can't quote the scriptures as if
Anything a musician might have to say would [D] would be worth listening to really
I mean what musicians do is they put together chords and rhythms and melodies and so if you want entertainment, I [G] suggest
Christian entertainment because I think it's good
but if you want spiritual nourishment, I suggest you go to church or read your Bible or something and let this entertain you [C] but
Look beyond this
For what you really need in life.
[G] I like the Bible
I know a lot of people a [C] lot of people don't like the way I like the Bible
[G] I just like it the way I do I can't help it
The thing I most like about the Bible are all the [C] weirdos in it.
I think the Bible is just
[A] packed with them
[F#m]
[A] Well, thank you all so much for coming out and I hope you'll go home
And [E]
I always find it interesting [D] all the people who read the Bible so they can find answers and it's about every time in my
Life I've ever found an answer if I went back and read the Bible it would blow it out of the water so I've
given up trying to find
answers in the Bible and
[F#m] Learning to look in there for the weirdest character of all of them and that would be God Almighty himself
who is a
[D]
bizarre from [A] our whole point of view
That someone could be [E] so totally other and so completely by himself
And yet he could want [F#m] us
badly enough that he [D] would
become like us in order to
help us become like him and
If you want a religion that makes sense I I suggest something other than Christianity
[F#m] But if you want a religion that makes [D] life
Then I think this is the one
[C#] [G]
Well, this is a
yet another prayer song and
sometimes I find it hard to pray and
[A] maybe [G] that's why I've written so many prayer songs is because it's easier if you sing [D] sometimes and
And
[C] God may find it more entertaining than if you just say it to who knows
[G]
Except that I'm [D] just not really all that sure that God is all that concerned about being entertained.
I'm not sure except what that's just a
Human thing
[C] [G]
sometimes, you know, you try to pray you try to impress God with all the right words and I
[C] [G]
Just don't think it's an easy thing to impress God Almighty
if you know what I mean is
And here's the thing that [C] I think we often forget is that [D] we don't have to impress him
He's already knocked out about [Am] you
[Em] He already loves you more than you can imagine.
[G] I
remember reading the thing that Picasso once [C] said I I like to read what famous artists have to say because I can barely
[G] I'm barely able to look at their paintings without
[C] Going into a coma trying to figure out what it's about
But he said this one thing that I really [G] did like he said that good taste was the enemy of great art
[C] Which I think is very very true
good taste has all to do with being cultured and being refined [G] and
If art has to do with anything it has to be do with being human
[D] And one of the reasons I love the Bible is because the the humans in the Bible are not very refined
[C] They're uh, pretty goofy if you want to know the whole truth about it
[Bm]
[G] I remember when I was a kid and people would always say, you [C] know, cuz I was one of those typical depressed
adolescent types I
wrote poetry and stuff [G] is how morose I was as a kid and
People go around saying Oh cheer up man, because God loves you and I'd always say big deal
God loves everybody
That don't make me special
[C] That just proves that God ain't got no taste
[G]
And I don't think he does
[C] [D]
[G] Thank God
Because God takes the junk of our lives
[D] And he [G] makes the greatest art in the world out of it.
And if he was cultured
If he was as civilized as most Christian people wish he [C] was
He would be useless to Christianity
[G] but God is a wild man and
[D]
I hope that
The course of your life you encounter him
But let me [G] warn you you'd need to hang on for dear life
Or let go for dear [D] life
maybe [G] is better and
[D]
This is a prayer for you and you're welcome to sing it along with [G] us
[N]
