[N] Okay, I consider rhythm a mighty important thing in music and in life, the rhythm of life.
A lot of guitar players, I don't know, heavy metal guitar players especially, are very easy to distract or confuse
when you bring them out of their comfort zone and throw stuff at them.
I don't know why.
I've always been playing the drums since I was a kid
and it helped me to get a better understanding of rhythm.
Also India messed me up a lot and I use Konakol, which is a sort of rhythm language which goes way back.
I just scratched the surface but it really helped me understanding the bigger picture.
A few basic things to get into Konakol is you have, instead of one, like one, one, one, one,
you say, and two, you say, or whatever, it's not super precise, it doesn't really matter.
And three is, four, and if you want to do a longer groove, you go,
five,
Okay, so if you want to do triplets over a steady pulse, if you do four times,
you will end up on a three-four pattern.
One, two, three, and one, two, three, and
So,
So, one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, [Bm] and one, two, three, and one.
Okay?
If you're a heavy metal musician like me, [E] you can play, this guitar is regular tuned,
but you can fake a kind of [D] metal sound by playing the [B] fifth below the root,
[Bb] or [Bm]
mute it a bit, and make an angry face, [Bb] whatever,
and set yourself on [Gb] fire, of course, and take [B] off your clothes, and whatever.
But you can do this, three sixteenths, four times, so one, two, [Bm] three, four, and
[B] [N] Okay?
If we do five sixteenths, one, two, three, four, five, four times, you get five, four,
one, two, three, four, five, one time.
So after four times, you end up on the beat, okay?
Goes like this, three, four, and
So,
You can put the accent on one and three, because it's more groovy, so you go,
Okay?
And now, using metal [B] chords, you go, one, two, three, four, [C] and
One, two, three, four, and
[B] Bring it up to speed, one, two, three, four, [B]
[C] [B]
[C] [Gb]
[B] and
Okay?
Seven, we can hit one, three, and five, meaning
one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven
4 times 716 is the same as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 one time.
Okay, you got it.
It's just growing.
Using conical you can just combine 4 plus 3.
Takatimi takite.
Takatimi takite.
Takatimi takite.
Takatimi takite.
Takatimi takite.
Okay, that would [Gb] be 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 [N] 2 3 1 2 3 4 1.
Okay, and now we do [B] this with [D] the same chord.
We use B flat to make it even more evil.
1 2 3 4
1 2 3 4
[Bb] Of course you don't have to [Eb] be a heavy metal musician.
You can
you need to Latin [Bm] American music.
You can of course
[C] [B] [Em] [D]
[B] it's [Ab] just a matter of approach and how [N] much distortion.
Okay, you can keep on going until you turn blue in the face.
9 4 is the same as 9 16 4 times.
And you can do takatimi tatikinatu, which is 4 plus 5.
Takatimi tatikinatu.
Takatimi tatikinatu.
Takatimi tatikinatu.
Takatimi tatikinatu.
And you can hit 1 3 5 and 7.
1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
Basically 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9.
So 1 2 3 4 and [B]
1.
Which is exactly what we did in a previous lesson.
[Abm] Okay, so 3.
[C]
[B]
[Bm]
[A] [G] [N] Okay, and you can keep on going until you turn blue in the face.
Hey, I want to do a song in 11.
Takatimi takachuna.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 plus 3.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takitita.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takitita.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takitita.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takitita.
So you can keep on going.
Hey, today I want to do a song in 23 16th.
Okay, what to do?
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Is 16.
Takatimi 20 plus 3.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takitita.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takitita.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takitita.
[F] Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takachuna.
Takatimi takitita.
Ha!
Okay?
Good.
Get working.
