[C#] [F#] [G#] [A#m] [C#]
[F#] [Fm] [A#m] [N]
[B] and [N] I do believe it's time to get back to Miss [C] Fanny, you know [F#] she's the only one [C#] who
[G] sends me here with no regards for [A] everything.
[G] It's too [D] cool.
[G]
I have a lot of [D] things.
[Bm] I'm [G] waiting for you and you to come [A] back again.
We do a lot of originals and covers on our YouTube channel and the way that [Bm] we pick the
covers, [A] you know if we had [D] it our way we would do an original every week instead of any covers
at all, [A] but if you're having a weekly series, [Bm] you know I'd have to be a pretty prolific
songwriter to [G] keep up with that, so we do like to [D] mix in the covers.
The way we pick the [A] covers, sometimes it's suggestions from [D] the viewers, you know we
get a lot of comments on our videos, people enjoy the cover and then they have an idea
for another one.
[G] We actually have a tier [Dm] on our Patreon where people get [E] to, at a certain level, [Bm] [C#] whatever
cover they [Bm] decide we will play it, [Em] so that's [A] one way.
The other way is just really me and Tony kind [D] of [G] [D] deciding, being inspired by something and
deciding to cover [Bm] it that week.
[D] Tony and I, and [Bm] Tony Lindgren, the lead guitarist that I play with a lot, [G] we have a really similar [A] music background.
[G] We like a lot of the same sort of genres and a lot of the same artists, so it makes it
pretty easy to come up with common [E] ground and music that we [D] both are inspired by.
And a lot of that is, we like [A] to say old dad music basically from the 60s and 70s, a lot of that.
[Gm] And then an occasional newer [D] song, songs that we grew up with in the 90s and the early 2000s
and [A#] then some current stuff too.
[Bm] So we like to keep it [D]
a variety and keep it interesting.
[A]
[Bm] So my writing process [D] really depends on the song.
Sometimes I'll come up with a [A] chord idea, a series of chords, a [Bm] progression that sparks
something, [D] and then the lyrics and the melody will come after that.
Sometimes it's the lyrics and [A] melody kind of pop into my head when I'm walking somewhere
or I'm on the [Bm] bus or whatever it might be.
[G] And [D] sometimes they come [A] fully together, chords and melody and lyrics all at [Bm] once.
That's how, like for instance, [G] I wrote a song called Bernadette about [Bm] a ghost [A] haunting my apartment.
That just kind of plopped out of wherever it is that songs [Bm] come from, from the ether.
[G] And sometimes they [E] just come fully [D] formed and other times [A] it will literally take me
like seven years to start and then [Bm] complete a song and I'll just kind of keep [G] coming
back to it in little batches.
So [D] it really depends and I think that's [A] true for a lot of songwriters.
[F#m] [Bm] Lately I've been trying a new thing [G] where I actually sit down [A] at a certain time every
day and try to write.
And [G] I found that to be really nice because normally I'll just [Dm] write whenever inspiration strikes me.
But I think having [E] a bit of a structure and a work ethic about it really leads to a little
bit more creativity.
[A] [E] So I am excited to start making a different format of video from the very beginning on my channel.
I've mostly stuck to [A] live [E] music performances.
It'll just be a song basically every time.
And so [F#] [G#m] lately I've been toying [C] around with the idea of doing something [G#m] different, kind
of doing more talking [E] videos, more gear [F#] reviews, maybe commentary, [E] history lessons, just whatever
it might be that strikes, the [Em] inspiration might strike [C#] in a given week.
Part [A] of that is having [E] this [B] podcasting microphone to sort of spark that inspiration.
[E] I've been inspired by some of my friends doing these things.
Mary Spender is an incredible music guru on YouTube.
She's inspired me a lot in [F#] the last couple years.
[B] It's just [E] something I'm excited to try.
I always really enjoy if I follow an artist [F#] and I get to see them speak on different issues
and I really get a [A] sense of their musical [E] sensibility and who they are as a person when
they're not just [B] playing their instrument.
They're also speaking [C#] and talking and they have thoughts and [A] opinions.
I think it'd be [E] nice to share some of that too on my channel.
[B] [E] Shure [A] products have actually been a huge part [E] of my whole career.
[A] The Beta [E] 58A is one of my favorite things [G#] ever that I own.
On every [C#m] single tour that I go on, I bring [A] that with me.
I [B] love the way [C#] that that [A] brings out the clarity in my voice.
[E] I tend to just use it at [A] every show.
Usually [E] sound people are really accommodating when you bring [G#] your own mic and I'm always
grateful for that.
[C#m] I would say the [A] MV88+, which is [B] Shure's mobile on-the-go recording device.
[E] I've used that quite a bit just for behind-the-scenes content and [A] vlogging.
In particular, we did [E] a European tour, I think it was last year or maybe the year before,
[F#] but it was with the other favorites.
[B] The MV88+, made it really easy to just [E] literally have my phone mounted [F#] on the small tripod.
I would bring it on stage with us [Am] for every [E] encore on that tour.
We would play the show, then I'd [B] grab the MV88+, bring it out on stage.
[C#] We had this thing going with every [A] crowd on that tour where [E] we would ask them to yell
out the [B] name of their city.
At the end of the tour, we would determine [A] which city had the [E] loudest crowd.
We got footage of all [A] the different cities, put it [E] together at the end.
[G#] We ended up not picking a winner just because [C#m] the crowds were so [A] awesome and they were [B] great
in different ways.
[A] We just couldn't pick [E] a winner.
We're softies.
[A] [E] The unofficial winner was [G#] probably Ireland because they really know how to bring [C#m] the party.
[Am] That has been a [B] really great tool for [E] capturing those moments that are really quick and on-the-go.
In the van, we got a bunch of footage.
I've really enjoyed having that.
[A] It also takes up absolutely no [F] space in my bag [E] on the airplane.
I really appreciated the mobility of it.
[F#] [B]
[E] I feel like the newest chapter will be the SM7.
I've never [F#] had a mic that is specifically designed to be [A] mounted on my desk and used
in this [E] podcasting way.
I [B] have it permanently hooked up to my [C#] output desk here.
[A] I think that's really going to make a difference in [E] terms of just being able to [B] turn on the
equipment and start making a video.
A [A] lot of the barrier to making videos [E] is obviously just all the setup.
[Am] When you take that element [E] away, it just really makes it much easier to streamline.
[G#] I'm really excited to have [C#m] this new mic.
[A] [B]
[A] We do have a Los Angeles [E] show booked.
We've had it booked [A] for a while.
We had to reschedule it, I think at least [E] once, maybe twice.
Now it's [G#] December of this year.
[C#m] We've played LA a bunch [A] of times before.
Never played it [B] as, what [G#] do they call them here?
[E] Los Angelinos?
Just Angelinos, right.
[A] I'm learning the lingo.
[B]
We've never played [C#] any gigs here as [E] Angelinos.
It'll be fun to be able to just drive down the street and play the show.
Actually, the LA [C#] show is the only show booked in the US for this year so far.
We had to cancel [F#] a bunch of stuff.
We have a European tour planned for the end of the year.
I [C#] think it's November.
We'll see if that happens.
It really depends [F#] on how things go with the vaccine rollouts.
[C#] I know Tony and I are both just extremely, it's hard to [G#] overstate how [F#] excited we are
to get out of here and get back on the road and see some people in the [C#] flesh again
and be able to perform music in front of an audience.
I think [C#m] there's just something about [F#m] that that you just cannot get from any amount of [C#] videos
or live streaming.
[G#] We're really grateful [G#] to be able to do [F#] videos and live streams in the meantime,
but [C#] we really live for those live performances.
Can't wait for that tour.
Can't wait for the [G#] LA show.
Pretty excited.
