Hi, [C] I am Chimbalia [Am]
and I'm very excited to share [G] with you my new album.
It's just being [G#m] released with Soundstrue called Anahata.
So I'm here with my dear friends Gondalo Paniagua and Rocco Martinez and we're going to play some music for you
and share some mantras, some prayer [F#] and thank you.
[B]
My mother was a concert pianist and an opera singer.
[C#] So I grew [G#m] up with music in my house all day long.
She also taught piano so every day I would come home there were always children playing music.
And I [C#] remember the day, I think I was around four [G#m] years old, she never pushed it on me.
But I remember the day I [F#] went up [C#] to my mom and I said, Mama, I want to learn.
[G#m] She said, OK, you [F#] want to learn, then you're going to learn.
[B] And from that point I started playing piano every single day, [F#] practicing, practicing, learning the [G#m] fundamentals of music.
And that was such a gift to grow up with that kind of education.
But at a certain point I realized I loved to sing.
[C#] I love to sing more than anything.
And so [G#m] I started learning all these different songs, music about [C#] peace, music about love, about nature.
[G#m] These were always [F#] the subjects that [G#m] interested me.
Then at around [F#] 15 years old, I [B] became really interested in [F#] spirituality.
[G#m] And I was like a sponge.
I wanted to learn and read anything about [F#] Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American [B] studies, Celtic studies, psychology, paganism, [F#] Christianity, [G#m] Judaism, all of it.
I just, my [F#] little mind wanted to know everything [G#m] and find not only answers about why we're [F#] here, but how to make our lives better, where do we find [G#m] love.
So that's really [F#] when my musical path and my spiritual [G#m] path intertwined.
And [F#m] then I learned about mantra, singing mantra in Sanskrit [B] and singing [F#] sacred music [G#m] from all over the world.
And that began my journey, this [F#] beautiful, beautiful path that I have with music [B] and [F#m] spirituality from around [G#m] the world.
The new album is called Anahata.
And I named it that because [D#] Anahata is the heart chakra.
And all [B] of these songs [F#m] are mantras in Sanskrit.
They're [G#m] ancient, ancient mantras that I put new instrumentation to.
And I think [D#] now [F#] more than ever, of course, well, we always need the heart.
But we are in an [G#m] interesting time in our civilization, in our world right now, where I really feel like we need [C#] this power of the heart, power of the heart chakra.
[G#m] And this album in particular, [C#] I chose to use instruments that are [G#m] really close to the earth.
There's this is a [F#m] kalabhasa [C#m] and [F#] there's an ingoni [G#m] also, which uses these materials that are very, very close to the earth.
So for me, this album is emerging of not only these heart chakra [C#] mantras that are there to open, but [G#m] combined with the sounds, the sounds of the earth, [C#] because this is this is all we [G#m] have.
We come from [D#] this beautiful planet.
We need to take care of this planet.
[B] [F#] [G#m]
We just had the opportunity [G#] to [D] play at an amazing event called Chat for [F] Change on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., where [G] artists [Dm] and speakers, social activists came together to pray for peace, to chant, to sing and give our prayers and our wishes for this planet.
And people came from all over the world, artists from all over the world.
Sweet Honey in the Rock, there were the Ptahki Allah, the Kaualis, [F] many beautiful artists.
And [Am] [C] to be able to [F] to be up there and to have this incredible view of the monument [Am] and perform [C] these songs of [F] prayer, I can't think of a better [C] opportunity and a better place to do that.
For me, my intention with this music was was kind of a [F] refreshing.
I want everyone to feel [Am] refreshed.
I want your heart to feel new [C] again, like we have [Fm] hope, like we have depth together, [N] like we can clean and wash and start over and feel that purity of of beauty and remembrance of why we're here and what we have to live for.
I know that's a tall order for an album, but [Em] [Dm] I I so believe in the [Am] power of mantra.
I really do.
And I [C] know that [F] that within each of these prayers is this seed that can [Am] be unlocked that has so much [C] potential to renew the heart, to [F] refresh our souls and our beings.
[Am] So, I hope I helped.
