We're ready to do this thing.
What is this thing?
It's called a good night for rocking south of the river
And it really is kind of name-dropping
[G]
[D] [G] [F]
Some [E] way of [C] sound was totally [Em] different for the chorus and the verse
[G] Just grab something else that's
We'll give you a head of the middle
I might be playing some Middle Eastern drum instead of a snare drum or a tambourine or a garbage can lid
Just depending [E] on what gets us the sound that we're looking [Gm] for
And it's a lot of fun for me and it's a challenge
I carry oil [Am] pans, you know, drain pans for getting the [N] oil out of your car
I carry bird feeders, salad bowls
Your drum sounds are really different than anything else that people tend to use
That's primarily my own ineptitude and Rick Richards' apathy
[E]
He's just phenomenal.
Just such a great, great drummer
I think Rick though likes it too
I have to thank him.
He got an endorsement for Ringo Starr and I like that record
It's like [D] a band, you know, you go to hear a band
[E] If they got a good drummer, you'll love [Ab] the band
If they have horrible songs but a good drummer, you'll dig them
But if they have great songs and a bad drummer, you won't
So, you know, I'm very
I think that's why
Wait a minute, I think I just insulted myself, didn't I?
The reason you like my songs [A] is because of the drums Maybe so
[G] [D]
[G] [D]
[C] [G] Slip, [Dm] slip that one
[D] I got a recording out of it, played [G] it pretty snappy, it sounds [D] killer
You've just been playing it for that long?
Alright, we'll try it like that
[E]
[D] [C] [D]
Rick, [G] [C]
[Dm] [C]
[D] [C]
[D] I fang up, I'm [C] brushing the clothes around [D] it
You lost your prescription, [C] I found [G] it
You [D] need some good rockin', [C] I ain't nothing painful
[D] Love my friends, the [C] heathens and black angels
[D] Good [C] night for rockin' [G] south of [D] the river
Good [C] night for rockin' [G] with a band that [D] delivers
Good [C] night for [G] rockin' deep [D] in the south
South of the [C] river, it's kind of an idea [G] about just
You know, [D] there's [C] a lot of bands out there right now
[D] And some of them aren't very [C] good
But then some of them are
[D] And this is a song about [G] a [C] band that has it, that has the integrity of [D] what they're doing
They're doing it [C] because they have no other choice, you [D] know
And [G] [C] good night for rockin' south of the river
[D] With a band that delivers, [C] you know
There's a lot of bands out [G] there and they don't deliver
[D] I [C] guess I'm old enough now where I can go and say whatever the hell I want to [G] about them
I wrote that with the [C] idea, because there's a lot of young bands I really [D] respect
And I namedrop the heathens and the black [Bb] angels
I'm not above [D] name dropping in albums [C] or in songs, it's a problem
[E] [D] Weigh that thing up, [C] I'll make sure it's bleeding
[D] The tube's all warmed [C] up, I got what you need
[G] That's [D] all risk, [C] sin we dress like thieves
I [D] will not
We came out to the chapel [C] to record it
It's a [D] great place to [C] make music
I mean, it's [G] just because [D] there's something about it
You know, music is a [G] very spiritual thing
Even if it's a [Dm] greasy rock and roll thing
There's still some sort of [C] [G] creative spirit [D] about it
So it lends itself to [C] make [G]
joyful or, [D] you know, [Cm] low-down, [G] greasy noise in [D] it
You know, that's what we're doing
[C] Ray Wiley, however, has some of the best [D] stories of anyone I know
Got some of the best songs [C] of anyone [G] I know
Working [D] with Ray is
[Gm] Stress [C] levels are just, [G] you know, they just don't exist
If we're not having [D] a good time, we just don't do it
And I [C] really like that, you know
[G] It's not work, [D] it's art
[C] He's like a dust [D] bowl cowboy Buddhist
[G] [C] That's been through all [D] sorts of things
Come out [G] on top of it all and reinvented himself time [Dm] and time again
And [C] I just see this record as [D] another one of those reinventions
[C] And I feel very lucky that I have the opportunity to help him with [G] that
[D] Raise my pat, [C] what else can I say?
You get this sense [Dm] of history and you get a sense [G] of, you know, [C] like I say, [D] gratitude
I suppose, I was going there and I'm very [G] grateful to be recording in such a beautiful [D] place
And with, you know, some [C] great guys, great musicians
To me it makes me [D] hopefully a better musician [C] and maybe a better [D] person
I don't know about that
I'm reaching there
