I just wanted to show you guys a quick lesson on Ray LaMontagne's Beg, Steal, and Borrow.
You're going to have to tune your guitar down a half step, so that means your E string is
D sharp, the B is going to be an A sharp, G is F sharp, D is C sharp, A would be a G
sharp, and E, D sharp.
So [C#] when you play the chord, it'll match up.
And I know he's [F] playing these chords because I saw him playing on a video, but to match
it up [C] we had to tune our [C#] strings down.
So it's a D chord, and [B] then a C, and [F#] then a G, and back [C#] to B.
There's a few things in there you're going to have to know that's going on.
[B]
[F#] [C#] A couple little hammer-on tricks in [F] there.
So to get to [F#] the C I hit this B note [B] and hammered on, and then did a little hammer-on there
on [C#] the fourth string over.
So that, getting to the [F] C is like, so four counts of [C#] D would be one, two, three, four,
then [B] one, two, [F#] G.
[C#] That's going to be pretty much the chords for the verse.
So [G] it's a hammer-on with the [A#] third finger, [B]
and then fall into the C, hammer-on the middle
finger, [F#] G chord, and you do the little hammer-on there.
[C#] Back to B.
Okay, now the [G#] next part would be A, [B] C,
[F#] G, [C#] to D,
[G#] then A, [B] C, [F#] and then G.
Now this chord, [E]
[F#] this is an F chord with your [E] thumb wrapped around the bass.
F major 7.
So it's like [G] a barre chord, but you're [D#] leaving the first string [E] open.
Now if you [D] can't wrap your thumb around [B] it, the alternate version would be just to do
it, do the same chord, three there, [E] four, middle finger, [D#] first finger, leave the [G#m] first string open.
But when you strum [F#] it, you try your best to not hit the sixth [E] string.
But if you hit the sixth string and your thumb's there, you get that big bass sound.
[D#m] And then [C#] back to D.
[B]
[F#] [C#]
And there's a bridge later on [D#m] in the song that's A [G#m] minor.
Back to [C#] D.
[G#m]
[C#]
The [A#m] little riff there was a [C#]
[A#m] hammer-on second [D#] fret.
[C#] Alright, hopefully that was a good lesson for you.
