Hello, I'm Randy Newman.
The song I'm going to play for you today is called Losing You.
Most of my songs, I don't know where they come from unless it's an assignment
and someone's paying me to do a movie or something.
But in this case, my brother, who's a doctor, an oncologist, dealt with cancer.
Early in his practice, he had a 23-year-old kid who was a football player,
a Cal, I think, who had brain cancer,
and he died very quickly.
He was a star athlete, gone in a second.
The parents of the kid talked to my brother, and they said that
we lost our family 40 years ago in the extermination camps in Poland,
and we got over that.
Eventually we got over it, but we don't have time now to get over this.
And it's a big idea in a way, [B] where there's some things you reach a certain point in life
where you just don't have time to get better from it.
And I changed the circumstances a little bit when I wrote this song with that in mind.
[Eb] [Ab] [Bb] [Gm]
[G] [Eb] [Ab]
[Eb] [Ab]
[Eb] Was a fool with my money
[Ab] And I lost [Eb] every dime
The sun [Gm] stopped [C] shining
And [F]
it rained [Bb] all the time
[Eb]
Did set me back some
But [Ab] I made it [Abm] through
But [B] [Eb] I'll never get over [Bb] [Eb] losing you
[Ab] [Eb]
Do you [Gb] know how much [Gm]
[G] you mean [Eb] to [Ab] me
[Eb] Should have told you, [C] [Cm] cause [F] it's true
[Bb] [Eb] I'd get over losing [Ab] anything
[Abm]
[Eb] But I'll never get [Bbm] over [Eb] losing you
[Ab] [Eb] [Ab] When you're young [Bb] [Abm] and there's time
You [Eb] forget [Db] the [Eb] past
[Abm] You [Eb] don't think [B] [F] that you will, [Bb] but you [Ab] do
[Bb] [Eb] But I know right now I don't have [Ab] time [Abm] enough
And [Eb] I'll never get over [Ab] [Cm] losing you
[Eb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Ab]
[Bbm] [Eb] I've been cold, I've been hungry
[Ab] Now for [Eb] a while, I guess most of [Gm] my [C] dreams
[F] Have come true, [Bb] [Eb] with it all around me
[Ab] No peace do I [Abm] find
[F] Cause [Eb] I'll never get [Bb] over [Cm] losing you
[Eb] [G]
[Ab] [Eb] No I'll never get [Bb] over [Ab] losing you
