Start Jamming...
Hello and welcome.
Today I'm gonna do a very quick and short lesson about
That's the Way, a fantastic song from Led Zeppelin.
You all know that I love this band and
It's actually one of my favorite songs So
This song is in open G tuning so you have to tune down the
[G] first and sixth [D] strings to D
[Gm] And [Db] the fifth [G] string to G
So you have D, B, G, D, G, D
You have this wonderful open G chord
Love it.
So that's how it goes
[C] [G]
[Bb]
[G]
[Bb]
[D]
[G] [C]
[G]
And then we'll look at the end, the final, [N] the outro as well.
So the song is actually quite easy at the beginning
You just use these [G] three shapes so open
So open [Bb] and then sort of like an A minor seventh [Cm] shape.
So [Bb] first and [C] second fret
[Gm] And you do the same [G] moving step up
Then all open strings, but you put your ring or whatever [Bb] finger you want on the fourth fret of [G] the first string
Back [Gm]
[G] [C] [E]
to this shape before beginning.
[G] So very slowly and [C] [G]
[C] [G] then it goes again like [Bb] that.
So this is the first [Gm] verse
[Ab] [G] [Bb] [Gm] And it goes [G] like that's the way that's the way [Bb] it's gonna be this that's the way is
[D] So ring finger third [Gm] fret of the [A] second string
Index finger second [F] fret of the third string and middle finger on the third fret of the [Bb] fifth string
[G]
[Bb] Again
And [D] then it goes up to this
[Bb] This is all on the [A] seventh fret so
[G] Second third and fifth string finger the other [D] ones are open
[Gb] [D]
You do this little trick on the [N] fifth string where you slide up starting from the fifth
to sixth to seventh [Db] fret using your
[Ab] Index and middle [C] finger like [D] that
Where
[Bb]
[Ab] [G] [Gm] you just finger the first and fourth [B] string
[F] [G] Right
And you let everything but the C string go [C] and then do
this which is second fret
[G] [Gm] Open [E] and then second fret
[G] so and [C]
[G] [C]
then [G] open
At
[C] [G] [A]
[G] the end he plays something like this
[D] [G]
[D]
So [G] what he does is that open [Am] strings
[G] [C] [Bbm] So [Ab] playing on the second [Bb] and [Cm] fifth string [G] first fret second fret then moves up
third fret fourth [C] fret
Then fifth fret [D] fifth fret and then you go back to the seventh fret position that we saw [G] before so something
And [D] [G]
the rest of the strings you can play them like it's very loose and open
[C] [D] That's [Ab] something like that starting from [N] fifth fifth fifth fret finger on the second
third and fifth [C] string
[G] [C] So [D] [G]
you [D] first strum all these and [Eb] then you continue just with the pinky to [B] the seventh [Ab] and eighth [C] fret like this
[G] [Gm] [C] Your [D] [G]
middle finger from the [Gm] seventh fret of the third string [G] and slide down I
[C] [G]
[C] [G]
[Am] [D] [G] I [Ab] don't know if this is how he plays it, but it sounds good to my ears, so I don't [Gm] know
[A] I've seen many people playing it differently.
I've seen many live [Ebm] footage where Jimmy Page plays it slightly differently
So [G] again, this is how it sounds
And [C] [D]
[C] [D] [G] [C] [G]
[D] again to the seventh fret with the same trick
And [G] it repeats [D] itself
[G] [C] [D] [C] [Gb] [G]
Hope you liked it.
Bye.
Bye

[F] _ [G] Right
And you let everything but the C string go [C] and then do
this which is second fret
_ _ [G] [Gm] Open [E] and then second fret
[G] so and _ [C] _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] _ _
then [G] open
_ _ At _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ [A] _
_ [G] the end he plays something like this _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ So [G] what he does is that open [Am] strings
_ [G] _ [C] _ _ [Bbm] So [Ab] playing on the second [Bb] and [Cm] fifth string [G] first fret second fret then moves up
third fret fourth [C] fret

the rest of the strings you can play them like it's very loose and open _
_ [C] _ [D] _ _ _ That's [Ab] something like that starting from [N] fifth fifth fifth fret finger on the second _

[G] _ [C] So [D] _ [G] _
you [D] first strum all these and [Eb] then you continue just with the pinky to [B] the seventh [Ab] and eighth [C] fret like this
[G] _ [Gm] _ [C] Your [D] _ [G] _

[C] _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ [G] _ _
_ _ [Am] _ [D] _ [G] _ I [Ab] don't know if this is how he plays it, but it sounds good to my ears, so I don't [Gm] know
