Hey, how's it going?
I'm just going to show you how to play Mosquito song by Queens of the Stone Age today
Just before we jump into it.
I'll let you know you can support me a patreon
That's linked below as is a video explaining what that all is if you're unsure
You can also follow me on Facebook Instagram Twitter, and I've got a Spotify playlist that I put together
That's got all the songs I've made tutorials for in it
So you can have a listen through that and see if you want to learn anything
Also, if you could like and subscribe that would be great, but anyway now that that's out of the way
Let's jump into the lesson
So for this tune we're going to need to tune down to C standard tuning which a lot of Queen songs are in
So from low to high we've got C
[Fm] F
[Bb] B flat [B]
E [Eb] flat G
[G] [C]
[Eb] [C]
All right, and only two parts to this song we've pretty much just got a verse and a chorus
There is a solo in this song, but I haven't transcribed that it's just a solo so you can do your own one
But I'll go through section by section give you an example of each part, and then I'll teach it to you
alright, so we'll start with the
Verse and the verse goes like this
[Fm] Okay, [F] [Ab]
[C] [Fm] [F]
[Ab] [C] [Cm] [Fm]
[F] [Ab] [Eb]
[Fm] [F] [Ab] [C]
[Fm]
so we're starting with what in standard tuning is an a minor shape
so we're going to be playing the
Open fifth string second fret on the fourth and third and first fret on the second string
And we sort of pick the bottom two strings
And we strum strings two three and four
And just do a little up strum as well
[A] And then we've got a little
[F] [Bb] [Gm] This little melodic run which is
[Bb] Just hammering on to what we're already holding down from the open strings, so we're going to hammer on [G] from open second string
[Ab] to first fret then open third string
[F] To second fret and then open fourth string [C]
to second fret and then [Bb] back to open fourth string so you get
[Eb]
[Bb] [Fm] [F]
[Fm] Just like that
[Bb] [Ab] Then we go to a C major shape
[Eb]
[Ab] And again, we're just going to be plucking the bottom two strings of the chord
So [A] that's string [Ab] five on fret three
[C] Then second fret fourth string [Eb]
open third string and first [Ab] fret second string
So you pick the bottom two strings so [Ab] you go five four and then strum
strings two three four
[Eb] [Bm] And then you can [Ab] sort of hear
[Eb] The getting ready for the chord change so we do that up strum, but this time
It's just open so we're sort of like [Am] getting ready to go to [C] the next
chord [Ab] here
[Eb] [Ab]
So just open [Am] string three and four [D] and then we go to an E major [C] shape
So that's second fret on the fifth and fourth strings and [E] first fret on the [C] third string
Strumming all the strings and again we pick the bottom two two strings
Then strum the chord and [Ab] then do [Am] an up strum, but then taking our hand off, so we're just strumming [Eb] the open third
strings
[C] [Eb]
[D] And you get to the top again and repeat
[F] [Fm]
[F] [Ab] [Eb]
[C] [Eb] [Fm] [F]
[Ab] [C] [Eb]
[Fm] And that's the verse [Db]
then the other part to learn now is the chorus and the chorus goes like this
[Bb] [Eb]
[Fm] [C]
[Fm] [Bb]
[Fm]
[C]
All right, so
Same chords that we use in the verse except now.
We've got a D [Bb] major chord or D major shape
All right, so we start on that
So open fourth string second fret on the third
Third fret on the second string and second fret on the first
So strum this four times
Then go to that a minor [Fm] shape
[A] So second [Fm] fret on the fourth and third strings [Ab] first fret on the second [Fm] string
[Bb]
So you go from the D major
[Fm]
Minor do two strums of that [F] then we do that melodic run that we do in the verse
[Bb] [G]
So open [Ab] hammer on to one on the second string open hammer on [F] to two
On the third string [Bb] open hammer on [Cm] two on the fourth string [Bb] and then back to open [Gm] fourth string
[Eb] [Bb]
[Fm] [Bb] So that's the [C] first little bit then we go to that D major chord
So second [G] fret on the fifth and [F] fourth and first fret [C] on the third string
Just drum that four times
And back to the a [F] minor do this four times
[Fm] Then we go back [Bb] to our D major
Back to a [Fm] minor
And then just do [C] one
Sort of slower raked strum of that a major chord
So just [Bb] got the D major [Fm] a minor and [C] a major shapes
In this and we just cycle between them.
I'll just play it through again slowly two three [Bb] four
[Fm] [F]
[C] [Fm]
[Bb]
[Fm]
[C]
And that is all the parts to this song
Thank you so much for watching and listening.
Hope you enjoyed playing along with that one when you get it down
