Welcome [A#] to Eric Blackmon [D] Music.
Hi, and welcome to my tutorial.
I'm going to show you four chords that you can use to play Purple Rain by Prince.
The guitar is tuned standard, [E] E, A, D, [D] G, [Em] B.
I'm going to show you these chords without a capo,
but in order to play Purple Rain in the key of the original recording, you'll have to capo at fret 1.
Our first chord is A suspended 2, formed this way.
We're holding down the D and G string at fret 2, and we're going to strum from [E] the A string.
[B] The second chord is A [A] suspended 2 slash F sharp.
By adding F sharp with this finger, second fret on the low E string, we're going to play this chord.
[F#] That's A suspended 2 with an F sharp in the bass.
[A]
[E] Our next chord is E major.
We have a finger on the A string, second fret, the D string, second fret, and the G string, first fret, and we're strumming all the strings.
Only one more chord, and that's D suspended 2, formed this [A] way.
We have a finger on the G string, second fret, and a finger on the B string, third fret, strumming from the A string.
[D]
And those are the four chords that we'll need for this song.
