[F] [Dm] I've been a singer-songwriter for a little [Bb] over a decade.
[Am] [Dm] I've written a lot of [G] songs.
But [Em] two years [Am] ago, I took on a [Dm] project that was unlike anything [F] I have ever done.
[Bb] In 2014, the pastor at my church [D] in Alabama [Bb] asked if I would begin writing [Eb] musical refrains
[Bb] based on the psalms found in the Old Testament.
[Eb] The challenge [Cm] was that he wanted me to write a new [Bb] one every week.
And the [F] purpose of these refrains was to help our congregation sing [Bb] the psalms.
So the music needed to be [C] accessible, with simple but engaging melodies [Bb] that would be
easy to sing [C] and remember.
[Bb] What an adventure.
I said [Eb] yes.
And I [Gm] am glad I did.
[Eb]
[Bb] [D]
In the spring of 2016, I took the best of these psalms into the studio with a bunch
of amazing [G] musicians and a talented record producer.
[D]
[A] We knew we wanted to make a record that was faithful to the incredible energy and motion
[G] of the psalms.
[D] The psalms need to be alive.
So we made a [G] living, breathing recording of [Bm] these songs being played and sung by [G] real
people together in a room.
[D] I [A] could not be happier with how it turned out.
[F]
Psalms We Sing Together is a new record of singable psalms for Christian [G] worship.
I've had the chance to share these [F] songs across the country, and the reception [G] has
been [C] great.
[F] Although [Bb] the psalms are very personal and intimate, [Am] when we are [C] as honest as the [F] psalms
ask us to be, we recognize what we share, not what separates us.
My hope is that you and your congregation will find it a unifying experience as you
sing them [C] with my congregation here in Alabama [F] and with other churches around the country
that are starting to [Bb] sing these psalms.
[F] So I invite you to join me.
