_ Today we celebrate Easter.
It is the highest of all Christian holidays.
It is a day when we celebrate the resurrection and [Dm] the resurrection is [F] the key to understanding
the [C] Paschal mystery and God's [Dm] plan of salvation [F] for us.
After preparing [C] for 40 days we have finally [Dm] arrived.
[C] After pondering [F] our sinfulness for [D] 40 long days [F] we now bask in God's mercy.
_ After meditating on the passion and death of Jesus, today we [C] celebrate his resurrection.
_ There is no [F] more need for fasting from glories and alleluia and even food.
Today is a great day of rejoicing. _
_ [C] Rightfully so, we sing Psalm [F] 118 today.
It is an exquisite psalm that sings God's praises for God's mercy and love for us. _ _ _
It is thought that this particular psalm was sung while the Israelites [Dm] processed
into the temple in Jerusalem for the [C] feast of Passover.
_ This [Dm] psalm sings God's praises [F]
for the [F] liberation from Egypt [C] and from Babylon.
_ [Dm] _
[C] We Christians sing this [F] psalm because to us [C] it is a song of praise for the ultimate liberation,
the liberation from the bondage [F] of sin and [Dm] death through the [F] life, death and resurrection of Jesus [C] Christ.

The key to the Christian understanding in this psalm lies in verse 22.
_ The stone which the builders have [C] rejected has become the [F] cornerstone. _ _
Jesus used this verse to refer to himself, as we can read in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
[C] It was also used in the [F] first letter of Peter to refer to Jesus.
The [C]
antiphon or refrain to this psalm is [F] beautifully fit for today as well.
This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
