Hello, I'm Acoustic Guitar Senior Editor, Téa Gurken, and I'm here with a [N] Paul Reed
Smith Martin Simpson signature model, which is part of the company's special private stock
line of instruments.
The guitar is the result of a design collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and British fingerstyle
guitarist Martin Simpson, and it's based on the company's Angelos model.
Let's have a closer look at this particular instrument.
Most of the Martin Simpson models are built with Cocobolo back and sides, but this particular
guitar is made with Honduran rosewood back and sides, which are matched with an Adirondack spruce top.
The guitar has an African blackwood fingerboard, and the neck is made out of Peruvian mahogany.
As per Martin's request, the neck is pretty wide, it's about 1.81 inches at the nut, and
has a very substantial feel to it.
On the inside, the guitar is braced with Paul Reed Smith's typical hybrid bracing pattern,
which combines an X and a fan bracing pattern, kind of like a steel string and classical hybrid.
The neck is reinforced with a strip of carbon graphite, and the guitar uses proprietary
open back Robson tuners.
Because the Martin Simpson model is essentially a custom guitar, prices will vary depending
on wood choices, etc.
But the guitar I have here would sell for about $12,000.
Ok, you heard me play the guitar a little bit in the intro to this video, but let me
play it a little bit more.
Here's a tune of mine called 11.11pm, played in a GSUS4 tuning.
