Hi, I teach lessons in Ann Arbor and this is a follow-up from a lesson on the Hungarian dance number five and
We learn from lead sheets, which is just a melody line and chords written over top so you can develop your own rhythm and bass
If you'd like a copy just email me at
Rg piano at yahoo.com and I'll send you one that I've drawn up
Okay, it's in two flats.
So that's a scale of major scale of B flat
[F] The [Ab] relative minor of B flat [Gm] is G minor
This tune is in G minor and it's 2 4 that means there's two counts per measure 1 2 1 2
But we can count it 1 and 2 and 1 and 2 and so let's try that melody
1 and 2 1 and [Gb] 2
[G] 2
[Ebm]
[A] [G] And [Gm] 1 and 2 and 1 and 2 and 1 [F] and 2 and 1 and 2 and [C] 1 and 2 and
[G] 2 and 1 and 2 and 1 and 2 and 1 and 2
1 and 2 and 1 and [F] 2 and 1 and 2
1 and 1 and 2 [D] and 1 and 2
[A] [Gb]
[G] [D]
That's the tune next time you go through just do the chords so G minor
[Cm]
C minor
G [Gm] minor
C minor
G [Gm] minor not too tough yet
[D] D7 and G [Gm] minor then G minor again
C minor G minor
Then here's [Eb] that little run E flat D minor
[Cm] C minor and B flat [D] and then D7 and G [Gm] minor and [G] the second part is G7
[Cm] C minor
[F] F7 B [Bb] flat
[D] D7 [Eb] E flat
D7
[D] G [Gm] minor [F] a
Minor 7 with a flat at 5th that means you play an [Cm] E flat in it [D] D7 [Gm] G minor
Once you get your fingering down the melody down the chords down a few times
Then just play simple chords with the melody and we'll play a little pattern to keep give it some rhythm.
We'll go like this
C minor G minor just follows the chords [Fm] and
[Gm]
D7
G minor
[Eb]
[Gb] [Gm] [G]
[Cm] [F]
[Bb] [D]
[Eb] [D]
[Gb] [Gm]
[G] So I just played the simple chords [Db] like
Chords per measure.
I'm sorry.
I had to think about that
Now make it a little more interesting.
We can play those chords a little bit broken up.
So [G] for the G minor
Let's just play G and then DG like that
[N] It's just like the 1 5 1 in the chord structure and then see the same thing it's a C and then GC
[G]
[Gm] [G]
[Cm] [G] And just play 1d [C] 7 [G] or 2 just simple there and go back to your rhythm
[Gm] [C]
[Gm] [Eb] Or chords here
[Cm]
[G] Now g7 the way I would do this next part I would roll the left hand like this into the G I would go
So F F sharp G and then I play the chord up here
I mean just a [C] C
[Cm] And same thing with the [F] F roll it into [Bb] just a B flat
Roll into [D] the D7
[Eb] [D] And then this I would play with both hands but two octaves apart [Gb] and I play my chord [Gm] up here
[Ab] A
7 [A] flat at 5th, I'd play the a and [G] the G down here and I'd play [E] the e a
[Db] E [A] flat here and then a [D] d7 chord
[Gm] Like that and G
[G]
[Bb] [Eb]
[Am] [D]
[Gm] You
[G]
[Gm] [Cm]
[D] [Gm]
[Cm] [D]
[Gm] [G]
[Cm] [F]
[Bb] [D]
[Eb] [Cm] [Em]
[G] [A] [Gb]
[Gm] [G] You [Eb] and that's that have
