Hey good people, welcome back to the Texas music scene.
Here now is Phoebe Hunt from Austin, Texas with a story and live performance of Pink
and Blue, which was recorded where she makes her home base now, Brooklyn, New York.
[E] Dominic, my husband, the mandolin player and I, we went to India.
[Em] We were just engaged at that time [D] and we went to India last [A] year in January to [Gb] rewire our
brains, that's what we said.
[D] So the first 10 days we spent in a silent meditation retreat, the Vipassana meditation
retreat in the [G] middle of nowhere [A] in a place called Kolhapur.
[D] These lyrics kept [Gbm] coming to me during that time and you know in meditation you're not
supposed to think [Bm] of anything.
I couldn't write anything down.
One of the rules of this [G] retreat is you can't write, you [A] can't read, it's just you and your
[D] silence and meditating all day.
The very [Em] 10th day when we finally were able to write or [E] speak again, I grabbed my journal
and I [Em] wrote out the lyrics to Pink and Blue, which had kind of been entering into [A] me during that Vipassana.
We had a bunch [E] of our buddies, lots of [D] our bandmates even, join us and they [Bm] flew to India
and they met us and we met them [G] at this retreat [A] center for music called Chennai [A] Natabindu
[D] and we studied [E] Hindustani Carnatic Indian [A] classical music.
I knew [Gbm] that during that [Gb] time I would be able to write the music [G] part for the song, [A] so that
song kind of came in two [D] phases.
The lyrics came from the Vipassana and then the music came out of the music study, so
it's kind of cool.
