I always wanted to write an Australian song and I did.
When I went back to Australia a couple of years ago, a few years ago now,
my grandfather just died and he was [Bb] a saddle maker in a little town of Tenerfield.
So I wrote this song [G] about him and me [Gb] and I called it Tenerfield [F] Saddler.
Late George Woolno [C]
worked on High Street, [Dm]
lived on Manners.
[Bb]
Fifty-two [F] years he sat on his veranda and made his saddle.
[C]
[Am] [Bb] And if you [F] had questions [C] about sheep or flowers or dogs,
[Dm]
[F] you'd just ask a saddler.
[C] He lived without sin, [F] the building a library for him.
Time [C] is a [Dm] traveller, [Am] Tenerfield Saddler, [F] turn your head.
[C]
[F] Right again, Jackaroo, I think I see Kangaroo up a hill.
[C]
[F] The son of George Woolno [C] went off and got married [F] and had a war baby.
[Bb]
Something was wrong [F] and it's easier to drink than go crazy.
[C] [Bb] And if there were questions [C] about why the end was [Am] so sad,
[Dm]
George [F] had no answers about why a [C] son [Am] [C]
ever has a need of [F] a gun.
Time is a [C] [Dm] traveller, [F] Tenerfield Saddler, [Gm] turn [C] your head.
[Gm]
[C] [Gm] Right again, Jackaroo, [Bb] I think I see Kangaroo [F]
up a hill.
[Cm]
[F] The grandson of George has [C] been all around [A] the world.
He [Dm] lives no special [F] place,
[Bb] changed his last name,
[F] and he married a girl [C] with an interesting face.
[Bb] He'd almost forgotten [C] them both because in [Am] this life that he leads,
[F]
there's nowhere for [C] George and his library or the son with his gun [F] to belong.
[Bb] [G] Except in [Gm] this song.
[F]
[Am] Time is a [Dm] traveller, [C] Tenerfield [Gm] Saddler, turn [C] your head.

[C] [Bb]
Right again, Jackaroo, I think I see [F] Kangaroo up a hill.
[C]
Oh, [D] [G] time is [D] a meddler, [Em]
[Bm] Tenerfield Saddler, [C]
make [D] your [Am] bed.
[D] [C] Fly away, cockatoo, down on the ground, leave [G] you up ahead.
[C]
