[Dm] [D]
Hi, great to see you and welcome to another video.
Today we're going to take a look at
a Paul Weller song which works really nice on the acoustic I think.
It's called You Do
Something To [Em] Me.
It starts out in E minor, which if you don't know is just the 4th and
5th strings on the 2nd fret there.
Ok, now with the intro it goes from the 2nd fret to
the [B] 4th fret, same fingers [G] to the 5th fret.
[Em] Ok, so that's
[Em] 2nd, 4th, 5th, like that.
Alright?
[Am] So to get it in context [B] it starts like this.
[Em] [E]
[Em]
[Ab] [Em]
Something along those lines.
Try and aim for
something [A] like that.
Ok, so let's play that together after 4.
2, 3, [Em] 4.
[Gb] [E]
[Em]
[Gb] [E]
[Em]
[Gb] [E]
Alright?
So that's
the intro out of the way.
Then it goes into the verse, ok?
So after it lands back on that
E minor it's You do something to me.
And that's a D chord, yeah?
[D]
Which is just 1st
and 3rd [Ab] strings of the 2nd [Gm] fret and then the 2nd [Gb] string [F] on the 3rd fret, ok?
So it's You
do [D] something to me.
Then an A [Am] minor 7th which is like an A minor, only you take off that
3rd finger so you have that.
[E] Don't play the E string, play from the [Am] A, like that.
Alright?
So it's You do something [D]
to me.
D, A [Am] minor 7th and [C] then it's a B minor [Bm] 7th.
Something
deep [Em]
inside.
Back to the E minor, alright?
So the only chords that we've got going on
in the verse, if you count that E minor, what it kind of ends on at the intro, it's
You do [D] something.
1st chord of the verse is really that D.
[Ab] So the [Am] A minor 7th,
[B] B minor
[Bm] 7th.
Something deep [Em]
inside.
Ok, so you know the D [D] chord, you know the A minor [Am] 7th chord.
Now on this [G] B minor 7th you have various options so I'll just very quickly run through what
you can play there if you want to.
You can just play [Bm] a straight B minor, which is that.
[A] Just [C] imagine this A [Am] minor here, moved up to [Bm] and barred, ok?
So that's a B minor, straight
B minor.
Now you can play the B minor if you want to [A] or you can take off your little finger
and play a B minor 7th.
I tend to [Bm] play that.
Or you can just play this, rather than barring
it, you can just play this note, that note and that note and leave the ones open in between
so you have a I've also seen him play that acoustically when [Abm] he plays the song, that's
Paul Weller, yeah?
So they all kind of work and it's just about what works for you really,
ok?
So they are the verse chords.
So I'll sing like a verse and you'll see how those,
where those chords fall, alright?
So from [Em] the intro, the end of the intro.
[Gb] [Em]
You do [D] something to me, [Am]
something [D]
[Em] deep inside.
Yeah, that's all there is to it really, the verses, ok?
Now when it comes to the chorus,
it goes [G] into like a [C] C7th.
Now a C, most [Am] of you will know a C chord, that is it, if you
don't know what a C chord is, it's just [Ab] 2nd string 1st fret, 4th string 2nd [C] fret and 5th
string 3rd fret, yeah?
Now a C, that's a C shape.
Now if [Ab] you add this little pinky on
the 3rd string of the 3rd fret, you have a [C] C7th.
Now some people prefer to play a G in
the bass for this, [D] this kind of thing, [C]
or you can play a C in the bass.
[Ab] Personally I
don't think [Gb] it matters too much, ok?
[C] I think you'll probably find it simpler to play just
a straight [Abm] C7th.
So as I say, you have this, hanging [C] on the wire, then all you do is you
play, [Am] take them [Ab] off and play the A [Am] minor 7, which is that chord, then that chord, just
that, but play just the [D] 4 strings,
[Em]
ok?
So that's the first half of the chorus, alright?
One more time, hanging on [C] the wire, [Am] A minor 7, then that, that chord there is just the
2nd string of the 1st fret and you don't play the top 2 strings, just [D] play from the D, and
then to [Em] the E minor.
One more time for that [E] first half of the chorus, hanging on [C] the wire,
yeah, yeah.
[Am]
[A] [Em]
Now when you've got that E minor position, for the 2nd half of the [E] chorus,
just play, [D] [C]
alright?
You got that?
[D] [C]
[A] Alright?
So all that is, is if you're playing [E] the E
minor, this 4th string here on the 2nd fret, then it goes down to the 1st fret, [Eb]
then it
goes to an open [D]
D, and then you come back into the C7 and play the [C] bass note, and then
[Eb] you come back into the C7, ok?
So effectively [E] you're playing, [Ebm]
[D] [C]
[E]
[Eb] [A]
[C]
alright, so let me run through
the first part of that chorus, hanging on the wire,
[Am]
[A]
[Em]
[D]
[C]
then [G] a G, then an [A] A7, then [C] a C,
[A]
[Em]
ok?
So the whole chorus now, [C]
hanging on the wire, yeah, [Am]
[A]
[Em]
[C]
[G]
[A]
[C]
[A] [Em]
yeah, back into that.
[Db] [G]
[Em]
And that
is pretty much the whole song, yeah, as I always say, go check it out, play along with
the record, [N] work out the arrangement, because that really does bring on your musicianship
when you're having to do it a little bit yourself, kind of working out where everything falls
and stuff like that.
But they are the main elements of the song, so you've got the intro,
the verse and the chorus, and that's pretty much it, ok?
I'll just have one quick run
through now, so you can see it one more time, ok?
So [Em]
[E]
[Em]
[E] [Em]
[G] [Em]
[D] intro
[Am] [D]
[Em]
[E] [C]
[Am]
[A] [Em]
[B] [C]
[G]
[A]
[C]
[A]
[Em]
[G] [Em]
So that's [E] pretty much all the elements, [G] I hope that that helps you in some small way,
and if you enjoyed the video, perhaps you could click on like or subscribe.
Look forward
to seeing you next time, thanks for watching.
