[B] Okay, this is a new song and the story behind it is that when George and I were kids in
Liverpool, we grew up [Bb] playing guitar together [F] [Bb]
and one of the things we would [C] have was a
kind of party piece, just occasionally, you know, just to show people we weren't as thick
as we looked.
So we would play a little piece and actually we got it wrong, [Dm] but we played
a little piece that was by Bach and the thing we liked about it was it had a melody line
and a bass line going at the same time.
It was this piece.
[A]
[A] [Dm] [D]
[Dm]
[G] [A] [Bm] Really should [F]
[A] [C] go
But we didn't know that bit.
So [Bb] it was our little show-off party piece and actually the
bit where we went wrong, [F]
[G] [A]
I later took [G] that, [F]
the idea that [A]
you've got the bass line on
[Eb] the top line, the melody, and turned it [F] into [Gm] Blackbird.
[F]
[C] And I enjoyed that style so much
and it kind of worked that on this new record I thought, I haven't written anything in that
style since then.
So I wanted to kind of revisit that.
And so I [Bb] was sitting around
trying to write something like that with a top line and a bass line and came up with
this song called Jenny Wren.
[F] [Gm] [C]
[Gm]
[Eb]
[F] [Gm]
[Bb] Like [C] so many girls Jenny [F] [Eb] Wren could sing
But [F] [Gm] a broken heart [F] took [Bbm] her song away
Like [F] [Bb]
[F] [Gm] the other [C]
girls [Bb] Jenny Wren [Eb] took wing
[F] She [Gm] could see the world [F] and its [Bbm] foolish ways
How we [Ebm] spend [Bb] [Gb]
our [F] days casting [Bbm] [Cm] love [Db]
aside
[Dm]
Losing [Ebm] [D] sight [Gb] of life [F] day by [Bbm]
day
She
[Bb] [F]
[C] saw poverty
[Gm] breaking [Eb] up a home
[F] Wounded [Gm] warriors [F] took her [Bbm] song away
[Fm]
[Gm]
[Bbm] [Fm]
[Gm]
[Bbm] [Fm]
[Gm] [Eb]
[Bb]
[Db] Doo, [Bbm] doo, doo,
[Ebm] doo, [Dm] [Gb] [F]
doo, doo, doo
[Bbm] [Cm] [Db]
[Dm]
[Eb] [Bb] [Gb] [F]
[Bbm]
[Bb] But [Gm] the day will [A] come, [Gm] Jenny [Bb]
[Eb] when we'll sing, [F] When this [Gm] broken world, [F] mends its [Bbm] foolish
ways.
Then [Ebm] we'll [Dm] spend [Gb] our [F] days, catching [Bbm] [Cm] up [Db] on [Dm] life,
All [Ebm] because [Bb]
[Gb] of you, [F]
Jenny [Bbm]
Ren.
[Dm] You saw [Ebm] [Dm] who [Gb] we [F] are, Jenny [Bbm] Ren.
[Fm] [Gm]
[Bbm]
[Fm] [Gm]
[Bbm]
[Fm] [Gm]
[Eb] [Bb]
[Gb] [Gbm]
[Eb] [Gb]
[Eb] [Gb] [Eb]
You [Bb] saw
[N]
who we are, Jenny Ren.
