Well, I moved to Texas about 16 years ago and I became a big fan of driving long drives
only because I discovered that I could sing without anybody hearing me whatever I wanted
to like I became George Strait's best backup singer ever for 13 hours one time and it was really fun.
[D#] And, [F]
well, on one of these drives, it's about 13 hours [A#] between Austin and Nashville, Tennessee.
That was a drive I've done quite a few [Fm] times.
I was coming back to Austin and there had been tornado warnings all day long and I was
kind of going down the highway, checking in with those little radio stations to see if
one was coming my way and [D] I turned the corner down to Texarkana off of Arkansas and I was
going down the highway and the sun was starting to go down and the light was just beautiful
and the air was just kind of sizzling because of all the weather and I looked down the highway
and it's big tall grass and in the middle of the tall grass is this brown pit bull just
shooting down the highway like the wind and I thought that is just wow, beautiful and
then I realized that that dog was completely screwed because somebody had, you know, dumped
it on the highway and which is what people do with their dogs, sadly, and [D#] they get done with them.
I don't know.
That's [G#m] weird to me.
So, that dog haunted me and I ended [Cm] up writing this song.
