Well, there's about six Carpenters tunes I could have done, I think, because I [G] love so
many of those [B] songs.
And it really [F] kind of came [E] up to a toss-up between [A#] For All We Know and [C] Rainy Days and Mondays.
Both are just [Em] great [C] sort of descending, bass-line kind of tunes, which I love.
[G] But Rainy Days and Mondays [C] in particular, it turned out that kind of got the edge a
little bit because it was [Dm] so fun to solo on.
There were lots of things to do [A] with that.
I [C] just always thought that was a [F] great song.
It lends itself to some very simple kinds of [C] reharmonization stuff that is in there, too.

[G] When I think about the Carpenters, for [C] instance, and the level of [Dm] musicianship that's represented
there and [F] the [G] depth of soulfulness that's kind of represented [C] in Karen [G] Carpenter's voice
and the kind of skills that went into [C] making a lot of those tracks [G] do what they do musically.
I [C] embrace all that completely.
[G] I always [F#] have.
I never felt [Dm] like I needed to [C] create any kind of distance between that and anything else.
To me, it really speaks and lives on its own [Dm] terms and has a sort [C] of timeless resonance
[F#] to [F] music itself.
[C] I'm taking now music out of [G] the [C#m] cultural [A#] context.
I'm just living [F] entirely in the world of good notes and good sound and [C] really skillful [Cm] deployment
of musical knowledge and so [C] forth, which is kind of the [C#] bedrock thing for me.
That's what [Cm] I kind of live for, in a way.
