I heard you was gonna contribute to this.
I was on the electric show.
You'll do part A?
I'll do part B.
Okay.
Alright, so this next song, this happens to be one of the songs that you absolutely love.
Us two.
It also happens to be part of the Holy 14.
Do you know what the Holy 14 is?
No.
The Holy 14 are the 14 songs that we must try to play every night.
I'm gonna give them a shot.
[D]

[N]
Are there any aspiring songwriters and musicians out there?
Yep.
Anybody out there that really loves music?
We're gonna get to the real behind the music on this one, okay?
So here's the deal.
As a model for hit records, I always believed three things had to happen.
One is you had to have a great melody.
Number two, you had to have great words to connect.
And number three, you had to have a great treatment.
That's really important.
Treatment means a lot.
That's the rhythm, the structure, the [B] tempo.
All those things are really, really [Ab] important.
I'll get to that in another song later.
But that's really important.
But I also live by the model of this.
I [N] wanted to have a song, a hit song start with a very identifiable sound.
A note, a rhythm.
So every time you heard that song on the radio, you knew exactly what that song was.
I really tried hard to do it.
If you go back in the catalog of songs we have,
you'll notice a lot of those hits start a certain way.
And as soon as you hear them start, you know exactly what that is.
This next song we're gonna do, I'll give you a little insight on this.
Here's what happened.
I went in the studio, and I had a keyboard.
I played a chord on the keyboard, one [Ab] chord like this.
And then I let it sustain.
What I did is I had this thing called a super prime time.
It was a [Gbm] little box that had the lathes left and right on it.
So I started moving all these little knobs, and [Ab] I created this rhythm,
this crazy rhythm on this keyboard that [N] everybody thought was a guitar,
but it was actually a keyboard.
So I created this crazy rhythm.
I loved the structure.
I thought, oh, I could build a song around this.
It's gonna be phenomenal.
So I invited Patricia and the band into the studio to show them what I was starting.
And I played it for them, and they looked at me, and they went,
you're fucking crazy.
They said that a lot.
They said that a lot.
I said, but just hang with me on this,
I think it's really gonna work [B] out.
Just stay with me.
And they did.
We all did.
[Db] [N] And this is what the outcome was.
So you'll know that we did this as soon as the first concert.
