[A] [Ab]
[Fm] [G]
[Gb] This is the piano, it's a Yamaha C7, 7 1⁄2 foot grand, and it's my main instrument.
I grew up playing the piano and it's what I started on and probably what I play more than anything.
[C]
[Cm]
[F] [Gb]
[C] I spend most [N] of my time here sort of facing out to the page side.
It's a really nice view.
I get a nice reflection [A] off of the top of the keyboard there.
So [C] we'll move up to the clavinet.
This is what I play some of the more [D] funky songs, [Eb] MoMA Dance, and I have a Vox [C] Wah Wah
pedal that when I turn it on sounds like this.
[B] And I also have a phase shifter up here which I can use to get [C] an added effect which sounds like this.
[Bb]
[C] [Bb] It [C] works [E] not unlike a guitar.
There are actually little [Eb] strings in here and a pickup and it's tuned and that sort of thing.
[C]
So that would be the note legato and this is staccato.
[F] We will move over [N] to my little Whirlitzer, little pumpkin.
Most of the Whirlitzers that people play are a little bit longer than this.
I was able to get this just about two years ago and maybe my favorite new addition to the rig.
But it's a really cool [F] sound.
[C] Also comes [Gb] with a vibrato.
[C] This is the stock so it has a vibrato.
[Gb] And I guess the addition to this would be that there is a speed on the vibrato as [C] well
so I can make it vibrato fast or slow.
[Bb]
[Eb] [Gb]
[Db] [C]
[G] [Gb]
[Am] That takes care of this side of the rig.
Swing over here and we have Fender Rhodes 73.
[G]
Something I've been traveling with for many years.
Something that I play on 2001.
Also play on Punch You In The Eye.
Again I have a [C] few effects on here.
[A]
[C] [A]
[C] [G] This is in stereo so with these knobs over here I'm able to [Dbm] control how fast and [F] the
intensity with which the sound is traveling from the left and right speakers.
So it's going to be hard to tell maybe on my little mic but if you're out in the house
it's actually traveling from the left to the right and back and forth and I can control
how much of the sound is traveling and how fast it goes back [Cm] and forth.
Also on this keyboard I have a Maestro Phase Shifter, kind of a vintage instrument which
gives me three different speeds [A] of phase.
The synthesizer is my [Bb] Yamaha CS [Gb]-60.
Something that was made in the late 70s and the early 80s.
I use this on songs like The Meat Stick.
[Ab]
[Gb]
[N] What's the Use.
And a lot of sort of spacious jams that we get into.
I like to go to this one.
Also gives me the sound for Steam when we play that.
[Bb]
We'll move over to this synthesizer over here which is my Moog Little [Ab] Fatty which is [Cm] I believe
[Gb] an analog synthesizer but with [D] digital sort of controls.
A lot of times I'll play this for a little bit [Gb] of the beginning of a Suzy Greenberg solo.
[D] [N]
This is a Hammond B-3.
I believe it's from 1968 and is probably other than the piano my second go [B]-to instrument.
Lots and lots of songs we do on it.
[G] Golgi Apparatus
[C] [G] [A] or It's Ice.
[D] [Am] [D]
[E] [Bb]
I've had this one slightly [C] modified so that I can get an extra percussion sound.
That sharp attack is called [N] percussion in the organ.
With this knob over here, the percussion boost, I am able to turn it up and actually turn
off all the other sounds so all you hear is percussion [C] which is the sound that I use at
the beginning of Maze.
[Eb]
If that's at all familiar to you.
[Gb] This is my pitch pipe because I'm the one responsible for finding the pitch and knowing
the [Eb] key of every a [B] cappella song that we sing.
If I don't know, we're really in [N] trouble.
So, that's very important.
The other thing about the organ is [Gb] that the Hammond organ is typically paired with a Leslie speaker.
This is my Leslie speaker here.
[Ab] Leslie speaker has two rotating speakers.
One of [Bbm] these horns is loaded with a speaker and then one that comes through the bass down below.
They're spinning in opposite [N] directions and at the touch of a foot switch over here, I'm
able to make them go fast or slow.
This is what it sounds [Cm] like fast.
As it slows down, it evens out and doesn't have the tremolo that's created by the speaker.
It's not [Gb] only a tremolo that's created but because the speaker is actually moving around
and there's a microphone here, there's a little bit of a Doppler effect that's created.
It's sort of like when a car goes by.
It goes, oh.
So as the horn spins by the speaker, it actually [C] sounds as if it's not only is the volume increasing
and decreasing but there's a little bit of a waver also in the pitch because it's rotating very fast.
[Ab] [Gm] [G]
