Omnichord PERFORMANCE Tip #1 (Playing a song) chords
Start Jamming...
[F#m] [N] Ok, all you Omnicord lovers out there, I'm going to teach you how to play a song, actually
perform a song the way I would do it when I was doing it quite a bit more than I do
now.
This is Sweet Dreams Are Made of This by The Rhythmics.
I used to write up in the
corner of the paper the tempo and the [Em] rhythm that I liked.
So this says Rock 1, 1130.
[B] The
song is easy enough, it's A minor, [G] F E, A minor, 1 2 3 4, F, 1 2, E 3 4, etc.
etc.
Once
in a while you'll stop on a D chord, but mostly it's just A minor, F E.
Anyway, Rock 1, well
let's start with the chord mode.
Chord mode, auto bass, chord hold on, turn that up.
Rhythms,
Rock 1, and it said 1130, which for me, I thought of it like a clock, so [N] I remember.
So 12 o'clock, 9 o'clock, 3 o'clock.
So 1130 would be just shy of the midnight position
or the 12th position and it would be just off to the side.
Now, the way I might start
the song is I might turn down the drums and save it for a little bit later in the song
to create more of a dramatic effect, give you somewhere to go with it.
On the sound
we'll start with, on the voices we'll start with vibes.
So get [Am] your on the chord set to
vibes.
Alright, there we go.
And let's get started.
So [Em] turn up the chord mode and we'll
start with A minor.
So let me stop [F#] it.
Okay, so we're stopped.
Here we go.
A minor.
[A] Here
we go.
[F] [E] [A] A minor.
[F] F, [E] E, [A] A minor, [F] F, [E] E, [Am] 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, [E] 3.
[A] Sweet [C] dreams are made of [E] this.
[Am] Who am I to [F] [E] disagree?
[Am] Travel the world [F] in the seventh [E] sea.
I'm a man of my word.
I'm
[C] a man of my word.
Everybody's [F] looking [E] for something.
[Am]
[F] [E] [Am]
[F] [E] [Am] See, okay, so now you've got their
attention.
They're going, [E] whoa.
[C] And then that's when you start [F] bringing in the drums.
[E] [A]
[F] [C] Get
the [E] balance right.
[Am]
[F] [E] [Am]
[F] [E] [Dm]
[Am] Sweet dreams [F] are made [E] of this.
[Am] Who am I [F] to [E] disagree?
[Am] Travel the world
in [F] the seventh [E] sea.
[Am]
[F] Everybody's looking for [E] something.
[Am] Sweet dreams.
[F] [E] [Am] I call that the dancing
fingers.
[F] Yeah.
[E] [Dm] Watch this, the D.
And then push the vibrato.
See how that sounds?
[A]
[F] [E] [A] Sweet
dreams.
[F] [C] Change to the [E] organ.
[Dm]
[Am]
[F] [E] [Am]
[D]
[N] That's how you do it.
