[A] [D] What's up guys, [F] Groovy Guitar Dude here with the beginner guitar tool for Old Town Road
by Lil Nas X.
If this video helps you out, hit that like and subscribe button and let me know down
in the comments below what other goofy meme related songs that you want to [Bb] learn on guitar.
Guys, the first thing you should know to play Old Town Road on guitar is that we are going
to be in standard tuning and we are [F] not going to need a capo to play this song.
The next thing we usually [C] go over is the structure of this song, but we're actually [F] just going
to repeat the same thing throughout the entire song, so we don't need [G] to worry about the structure.
And the last thing you need to know is the four shapes that we need to play this [G] song.
Just for reference, this is 3rd fret and this is 7th fret.
So the first shape we're going to have is going to be a 4th fret on the low E and a
5th fret on the G string.
It's going to sound like that.
Our next shape is going to be a 7th fret on the low E string and a 6th fret on the G [B] string.
Our next shape [G] is going to be a 4th fret on the A string and a 6th fret [Db] on the G string.
And then our last shape [Gb] is going to be the same thing there except we're going to open
up that A, but we're going to leave that 6th fret G string and we're going to play an open
low E and then that [E] 6th G at the same time.
And I'll have chord charts for all of those in the pinned comment below for those of you
[Eb] who need them.
And with all that in mind guys, let's dive into Old Town Road.
Man, okay, I know that this is another one of those songs that people will say, oh, nobody
wants to play this on guitar, this is stupid, but I thought it was hilarious.
The memes for this are too funny.
This is another one of those that's kind of like Thotiana, right?
You think that probably nobody's going to [F] want to play this on guitar, but it's fun
and it's easy, so why not?
Let's give it a go.
So what we're going to have is just those four chord shapes that I showed you just a
second ago, repeated over and over in order throughout the entire song with just a simple picking pattern.
So what we're going to do is we're going to start with that first shape right here, that
fourth on the low E and fifth on the G string.
We're going to pick [Ab] those two strings, so low E and G, we're going to pick them twice.
So we're going to go like that.
And we're going to go to our next shape, which again is going to be a seventh on low E and
then a sixth on G.
Same thing.
We're going to pick those [B] twice.
[Db] And then from there, we're going to go to our third shape, which is fourth on A and
sixth on G.
Again, pick those twice.
And then we're going to go to our last shape and we're going to play that open low E and
the sixth G and pick those [E] twice.
And that is [N] literally it, guys.
That is what's repeated throughout the entire song.
We just repeat that same exact picking pattern through literally the whole entire song over
and over and over again.
And that's it.
Again, this is a really easy one and it seems goofy to even try to play this on guitar or
whatever, but it's fun and it's easy.
And this is actually a surprisingly good song for beginner finger pickers to learn because
there's not a whole lot of complex things going on.
It's a really good starting place for somebody who wants to learn finger picking.
So with that in mind, I'm going to play through that once really slowly and I'll play through
it a couple of times full speed so you can match it up with the speed of the song.
Slowly through that picking pattern, we'll look about [Ab] like this.
[B]
[Db] [E]
[A] [Ab] [Am] [B]
[Db] [E]
And guys, a couple of times through this picking pattern that we'll repeat through this [Ab] entire
goofy song will look about like this.
[B] [Db]
[E] [G] [B] [Db]
[Dbm] [Ab] [B]
[Db] [A] [Ab] [B]
[Db] [Dbm] [Ab]
[Gb] [Db] [E] [Ab]
[B] [Db] [E]
[Ab] [B] [Db] [Dbm]
[Ab] [B] [Db]
[Dbm] And guys, that is everything you should need to know to play Old Town Road [F] on guitar.
As always, if you have any questions, you can hit me up in the comments below.
I'm usually pretty quick getting back to those.

Guys, I just saw the memes for this this morning and I was just cracking up.
I thought it was the funniest thing.
I saw that one where it was recorded from the back of somebody's car and there was [C] a horse
in the trailer and it [Bb] like the beat dropped and the horse started bouncing.
I was [Dm] just cracking up.
It was the funniest thing.
I thought it was so funny and [Gm] I was listening to it.
I was like, I bet you anything we could play that on guitar.
And so sure enough, I kind of jammed around on it and I found this way to play it.
And this song actually does have [F] guitar in it.
Obviously it's just a meme, but I don't know.
I like, I like jamming around on goofy songs like this.
Like [Dm] I did that Thotiana lesson a while back ago and it actually did really well.
So a lot of other people liked to play that too.
And [E] obviously it wasn't super serious, but [Gm] sometimes when songs like this get popular
that are kind of just a meme or it's just a [Dm] funny, fun song or whatever, people actually
like to play it.
So it may seem a little weird, may seem a little [Bb] lame.
People like, oh no, real guitarists would actually play [F] that.
No, it's stupid.
We're just having fun.
Guitar is all about having fun [Bb] and just enjoying what you're playing.
And [F] I enjoyed learning this.
I hope you guys enjoy learning it as well, [Bb] even though it's just a funny, goofy song
to jam around on.
But I [Dm] hope you guys have a wonderful day.
I'll see [F] y'all soon.
