Hey everybody, it's me John for those of y'all that don't know my good friend buck buck Norris music
He does a lot of cover tunes as well as some very fine originals on his channel
Link is gonna be in the side in the info section
If you haven't checked him out, I suggest you do
excellent excellent artist and
he
Always gives you a history lesson where this covers also
His information section is fascinating to read the background research.
He does on the songs that he he covers
If you check him out you won't be sorry
Last couple of days.
He's done the Bellamy brothers old hippie and old hippie revisited
The tune they originally released the hippie was 35
10 years later in
1995 they did remake
the hippie was 45 and
Listening to the songs the last couple of days.
I thought what this really needed was a updated version and I
Know it hasn't been
that long yet, but I went ahead and
Made the hippie in my version 63 so he's turning 63 and
The math doesn't quite add up, but it makes the song work a little better
So I hope you can forgive that and I hope you can forgive the fact that I'm nowhere near the musician that Buck is
But anyways, this is my version updated
He turned 63 on Friday
[C] And his hair is almost [G] gone
Almost 20 years has passed
[C] So I'm updating [D] it song
He still grows a garden [G] in the corner of the yard
[C] But now he's growing it [G] so that he doesn't starve.
It's supposed to be his golden years
[C]
But to him is [G] just plain hard
Well, he's working out the Walmart
[C] making [G] minimum wage
He just stands inside the front door [C] and as people pass he [D] waves
[C] He thought he'd be retired [G] and living on a beach
But [C] the economy's gone to hell when [G] his dream is out of reach
He thought this new guy was different, [C] but all [G] he does is preach
And [C] he's an old
Hippie [G] and this world is passed by
[D] He don't own a cell [G] phone and don't understand Wi-Fi.
[C] He's an old
Hippie [G] and high-tech has left him cold.
[D] He tried to change his [C] ways, but he's just [G] too dang old
Well, he saw the towers fall
[C]
And his [G] country go to war
Then we went into Iraq
[C] And he wondered [D] how much more
[C] He thought about John Lennon and how [G] we still ain't found no peace
He sees where this world's headed [G] any praise for some relief
Yay says a prayer for mankind
[C] That Hayden [G] war will cease
[C] Cuz he's an old
Hippie [G] trying to keep the faith.
[D] He sees our fast-paced [G] lifestyle and thinks it's such a waste
[C] He's an old
Hippie [G] and this world is going bust
So [D] he does what he can and he prays for the rest of [G] us
Well, he's looking to the future
[C] And he knows his end is [G] near
His way of life is long [C] gone
Everything that [D] he held dear
[C] Him and his kind get more [G] endangered every day
[C] And he knows when he's gone the [G] dreams of Woodstock will all fade
So he tries to pass his stories [C] on
Before he [G] goes away
[C] Cuz he's an old
[G] Hippie trying to keep the faith.
He [D] sees our fast-paced lifestyle [G] and thinks it's such a waste
[C] He's an old
Hippie [G] and this world is going bust
[D] So he does what he can and he prays for the rest of [G] us
[N] Well, that's my updated version hope you enjoyed
