Hi, I'm Phillip Peoples and I play drums.
I'm Ken Bethea and I play electric guitars.
I'm Murray Hammond and I play bass.
I'm Rhett Miller, I'm the frontman for the Old [D] 97s, and we're on the Texas music scene with our little buddy [C] Ray Benson.
Little Ray.
[A] The 2014 album Most Messed Up for Country [D] Rock Heroes Old [E] 97s is a no-holds-barred collection of songs.
[D] Naturally, their tune, Let's Get Drunk and Get It On, is what [C#m] frontman Rhett Miller called [E] one of the love songs on the album.
We caught up with the [B] guys in New Braunfels and [A] here's their story behind that song.
We're going to do a song for you [E] called Let's Get Drunk [B] and Get It On.
It's off [D] the newest Old 97s record, Most Messed Up.
And it's [A] just kind of what it, actually it's not what it sounds like.
It sounds like it's a big stupid song about what it sounds like it's [B] about.
But I think really it's kind of a [C#] sweet love song.
I mean, and [D] I joke every night before we play [E] it, I say this is an old-fashioned love song.
It's called Let's Get Drunk and Get It On.
Because it doesn't sound like it's going to be that.
But I think really at its heart, that's what it is, you know.
It's [D] pretty romantic for a [E] song that's about [D] trying to get it up after a lot of whiskey.
[D]
Not always [E] easy.
Alright, this next song is [G] a love song.
It's called Let's Get Drunk and Get It On.

[Am] You look so [C] great to [G] me.
This is the perfect place [C] for a rendezvous.
Oh yeah, [Am] it's got a rotten [C] view, but the [G] ice is free.
[D] [C] Let's drink whiskey and do it all night.
[D]
[C] Let's get drunk and get [G] it on.

Lay out a blanket [C] beneath the water tower.

We got it right here, right [C] now, lucky us.
Oh yeah, [Em] it's wondrous.
[C] What a [G] perfect day.
