[D] This is a neat night for a lot of reasons, but all these people have so many years of
history.
I [C] [N] have
You're good, Chester, you're good.
You've got a gift.
But
[D] I've told [C] these
guys this [D] story for a long, long time, but [G] it's important to me.
What [N] an inspiration
they were to me as a young kid.
[Eb] [Gm] I [Ab] think I [N]
was a freshman in high school, and Mr.
Bo
Jangles had come out, and he was this huge hit.
And I played the banjo a little bit,
not very good, but I was learning to play.
And there was a rock band in our area of Oklahoma
City that was the hottest rock band going, and they were the coolest things ever.
And
I [Db] was kind of a dork because [Gb] I played the [N] banjo.
And
It's not about you yet.
[Gm] [G] Anyway,
they were going to do [B] Mr.
Bo Jangles in their show [N] at the school.
They were going to play
a big concert at school, and they asked me if I would come and play the banjo on Mr.
Bo Jangles with them.
And it was actually one of the coolest things that ever happened
to me because I was excited.
And it mattered.
[E] And all that to say, [N] because these guys recorded
that great Jerry Jeff song, I got to play it, and it helped me [G] in my life.
[N]
[G] I've been friends with him for 41 years, 42 years.
We played a concert together back in
the early 70s, and it was [Fm] so much [Gb] fun.
And it was a friendship, [Ab] like I said, that lasted
all these years.
[N] And I was rummaging around my mom's house not long ago, and I'd [Ab] always
told [G] Jeff his story of getting to play Bo Jangles in those early years [Ab] of high school.
And I found the [D] picture of him playing [Db] the banjo, and then I gave it to Jeff, and I called
him the most [G] impressive.
Pretty [D] cool.
I'm going to do a [C] song that they did on the Circle
Record back [D] in 1972 [B] in honor of the great Doc Watson, one of the greatest guitar [Gm] players

[G] Oh, [C] he cut a little sun [Eb] out [D] of the evening.
[G] He had the love of the emperor, and all was

And the doctor comes in the family, and I
bow down, and he won't put his hand on my foot.
[F] And he says, he's got his long knee,
and he's got a son, and he's got a [G] son.
And he had the love of the emperor, and all was
on, but then he stood up.
He [C] cut a little sun [Eb] out of [D] the evening.
[G] He had the love of
the emperor, and all was on, but then he stood up.
[Gm] [G]
He stood up, and side by side, [F] all was
thinking about the love of his wife.
