[Gm] [C] [G]
[F#m] [E] [A#m]
It's funny, I [C] wasn't planning on being a [F#] musician.
[E] It [A] didn't seem like a responsible [A#] thing to do.
[C#m]
My parents [F#] were not the type of [A] parents who can just support you for the rest [E] of your life.
So I figured it's important for me to be able to make a living.
And I didn't think that would be possible by being a musician, because it usually isn't possible.
But it actually was possible, which was wonderful.
Right when I was [G] graduating, right when the [D#] job market was looking really crappy [E] for college graduates and for everybody,
I [G] was about to take a job in [C] marketing.
[G] [G#] And I had been working part-time for the Ritz-Carlton while I was in college doing marketing for them,
and I had a job lined up doing marketing at a [B] winery.
[A] And I was about [A#] to take that job, and [C#m] my dad just said,
[G#m] Why don't you focus on [B] the band for a little bit?
Which is kind of crazy.
[F#] And so I'm very fortunate, I think, at this point, that I'm not teaching French or doing marketing.
Not that there's anything wrong with those jobs, I'm just glad that I'm doing this.

[F#m] [E] [A]

[E] [C#]
[B] [F#] So in the beginning, there were our solo [B] projects.
And then we decided after [A#] a couple years [Em] of dating that we would try [A#] collaborating together.
[G] And so we did Pomplamoose, [E] and Pomplamoose took off, which was great.
[F#] And then, when Pomplamoose was getting really big, it started to not only overshadow our [A] solo careers,
but also just kind of take over our lives in a [F#] rather unpleasant way.
[A] Because it had been something that we [A] really enjoyed doing for fun, and suddenly it was becoming all business.
[F#] And [F] so we decided that in order to [D#] preserve our relationship and the band,
that we would take a couple [Dm] steps back from it.
And [A] so we both started working on our solo [D] projects more intensely.
And so for the last [A] two years, we've been doing pretty much primarily that.
[D] And it's been going great for both of us.
And [Dm] now we're back to a point [A] where we can imagine being happier, [D] reinvesting in Pomplamoose again.
So I think it was [A] the right thing to do.
[F#m] Oh, I [D#] just wanted [A] you to get old
And [D] I'm sorry that I never get [C#] around
[A]
To picking up the phone
The [F#m] most challenging songs [F#] was actually [F] the one that I played, I [A] Just Wanted You to Get Old.
I think that was one of the songs where I just [D] end up sitting in front of my computer [A] for hours and hours at a time
and just looking at a blank [C#] page and trying to figure out [A] how exactly I wanted to approach the [F#] topic of death
and losing [F] someone and feeling like you took someone for granted.
[G#m] The lyrics [G] were really what took up the most of my time.
Because melodies and chords [E] tend to come pretty easily to me,
but [D] actually figuring out what you want [A] to say is quite difficult.
I've repeatedly [D]
underestimated the [G#] fan [A] base that we have on YouTube.
I didn't [A] think that it would be possible to make a living solely through mp3 sales, and [G#] YouTube made that possible.
I didn't think that it would be possible to sell out 400 to 600 person venues on our very first tour, and that happened.
I didn't think that I'd be able to raise $80,000 for my album, and I raised over $100,000 for it.
So really, that fan base has [E] repeatedly proven [B] that they are not just in it for the one hit wonder,
the single ladies cover, the September cover, the Michael Jackson cover.
They're not in it for that.
They're in it for the long haul, which is [Bm] really encouraging.
It took me a while to [E] figure that you were [B] kinda special
But now [F#] you're all full of dicks
And yet everybody just for kicks
[B] And I wish that you would just shut up
There's going to be a lot of touring going on this year.
There already has been a lot of touring this year.
[E] [C#] Also, because of [Bm] being on the road so [B] much, and the [F#] frequent misery that goes along with that, I've been [B] writing a lot too.
It's [A#] funny, the [B] shows, you know, I'm used to being on the road.
I grew up on the road.
My parents were missionaries, so we traveled a [F#] lot.
[E] The shows are really great, [B] but they're often times sandwiched in between less fun stuff.
And in those less fun periods, I've found myself writing a whole bunch.
So I'm looking forward to not just touring, but also writing more, releasing more, and hopefully even doing something with Pops.
Yeah, you have [E] to do that
These things [B] don't seem all that bad to me
This is [D#m] Natalie Dahn, and you are [F#] watching Baeble Music.
