NAMM 2012: Alan Parsons Dave Pack's Horror Story chords
Start Jamming...
My uh, it's pretty frightening.
[Abm]
My horror story was in the live on stage.
I probably people ask what's [N] like the most embarrassing thing that ever happened?
I always come back to this one for some reason.
I was actually playing guitar in Michael McDonald band
for about a year on the road as Mike's guitarist and I enjoyed that very much and
We were doing a show in Irvine, California with Kenny Loggins
[B] and um
Gosh I have to shorten the story but
Kenny had asked Michael can you shorten your set just a little bit and and
Maybe cut David Paks guitar solo at the beginning of taking it to the streets
[Eb] I used to come out and it was my [B] moment when I could do two minutes of just blazing guitar
[Cm] and then the [B] downbeat of you don't know me, [Ebm] but I would come in [Db]
[Bb] and [Bm] I
[B] Told Mike at the sound check.
I said Kenny would like [Bb] me to cut my guitar [E] solo
[N] To keep it a little tighter on the show and Mike said he was wasn't it wasn't too pleased with that comment
And so he said [Eb] David.
I want you to go out tonight.
I want you to do a [A] four minute guitar solo
[F]
True [B] story and [N] I'm like, okay and it had rained that day.
So there was there was still [F] residue and water
[Bb] Well
[B] Anyway, my guitar was not working right with the Irvine Meadows and the rain and the [Eb] wireless was terrible
So I asked Kenny if I could borrow one of his guitars and he said sure.
This [E] is a brand new
Stratocaster I've just had painted, you know where this is headed, right?
[N] And I so I used Kenny's beautiful turquoise [B] painted Preston painted Stratocaster
Went out to start taking it to the streets [Cm] and
Mike McDonnell also said not only do I [Abm] want you to do a four minute solo
I want you to go out in the house and just you know, I just go for it
So I went out in the house and I'm blazing away on the opening [B] of the tape, you know my guitar thing
I'm looking up at the stage and I see
Kenny looking at me like
Hey, what's going on?
And I'm [Eb] thinking, you know, I better get back up on that high [N] stage
Stage was about eight feet high and I came running through the audience [F] and there was one [Eb] chair
to step on to get back up to this eight [Ab] foot high stage and I
[C]
As I [G] [Eb] jumped up on the chair, I'm still playing my solo I got to the edge of the stage [N] and I started teetering
going back going backwards and
There was a policeman who pushed me forward to keep me from falling [B] backward
Of course, what [G] happened is I went head over heels and [B] tripped
With the guitar and I gashed Kenny's guitar
And at the end but of course
Once I fell flat on my face, I came up and played a guitar note and then held my hand up in the air
[Ab]
And the audience went into applause but [B] I [Cm] handed Kenny [B] back his guitar afterwards with this terrible
My belt buckle gashed it all the [Em] way across the [Db] back
[G] [E] anyway, [Ab]
I
Looked up and I saw [N] Michael McDonnell looking at me just going like [C] I
Can't believe this is [B] that anyway that was [N] that's my
