[Em] Hey guys, this is Eugene and today I'm gonna show you in my opinion one of the
most essential gospel guitar licks.
So let's start with a lick.
[B] We are in E minor
and we play a E [Em] minor 7 chord, just a basic E minor 7 chord on the 9th fret.
And the first movement we're gonna play is we start on the A string and we do a
downstroke until we land on the B string and there we're gonna do a hammer-on
from the 7th fret to the 8th fret.
So that's the first part.
The second part is
a hammer-on from the 7th fret to the 10th fret.
So you can play it, you can
just hit the high E string like this but I think it sounds better if you start a
downstroke from the G string, then you hit the B string and then the E string.
So you do two movements.
First movement is a downstroke starting from the A
string until you land on the B string with a little hammer-on to the 8th fret.
And then the second movement is you start from the G string [G] until you land
on the high E string and you do the hammer-on from the 7th to the 10th fret.
So all together [Em] like this.
Now let's go to the second part of the lick which is
based on the E minor 9th chord which would sound like this.
But you just play
you just play the chord from the G string.
[G]
[Em] [G] So what you're gonna do is [Em] you
do a little Barry on the 12th fret, G string, B string and high E string and
then you do a hammer-on to the 14th fret.
[G] And with your right hand you [B] do a
[D] downstroke starting [Ab] from the [Em] G string.
[C] I think it also sounds [Abm] really nice if you
give it a little [Em] vibrato.
[Bm] [G]
[Em] [G]
[Em] Then you just do a downstroke from the G string
without the 14th fret.
So just the Barry on the 12th fret, G string, B string and
high E string.
So basically it's a E minor 7 chord.
[G]
[Em] [Bm] [G] [Em]
Then you go down to the
[A] 11th fret on the G string, the 10th fret [D] on the B string and the 10th fret on the
high E string.
Play that chord.
Just do a downstroke starting from the G string again.
And this is actually the shape is just based on a D major chord.
But you just
start playing this chord from the G string.
So [Em] all together would be like this.
[D] [Em]
[D] [Em]
[D] To finish the lick you just gonna [A] play the E minor 7 chord again with the
hammer-on from the 7th fret to the 8th fret on the high B string.
