[E] Hey, this [Dbm] is Grant from [Ebm] Reverb.
I'm here to show you the new [E] instrument [Ebm] from our futuristic friends in Asheville, [E] the Moog
Mother 32 Semi-Modular Analog [Eb] Synthesizer.
This [Gbm] is a [Ab] complete synth voice based [N] on the classic Moog architecture.
It's got a killer step sequencer on board, so right out of the box, it's going to be
a great desktop synth.
You can run MIDI in, connect your external instruments, and get rocking right away.
But it also has this powerful 32-point patch bay, and it installs perfectly into a Eurorack case.
So where it really shines is in a modular setting.
So if you've been curious about the Eurorack trend and looking for a foundation piece to
help you explore that world, or if you already have a Eurorack setup and are looking to capture
the classic Moog sound in one unit, the Mother 32 should be on your radar.
So let's take a closer look at some of the features.
Let's get a little sequence going [B] as we work through the signal flow of the Mother 32.
[Db] [Ebm] [B] [Db] [Eb] [B] Starts with the [Eb] voltage controlled [Ab] oscillator.
[B] There are two waveforms on the Mother 32, [Eb] classic [B] saw wave and [Eb] a pulse wave with variable
pulse width modulation.
[B] [Db] [Ebm] [B]
[Db] [Ebm] [Abm] [Db] [Ebm] [B]
A voltage controlled mixer [Eb] lets [N] you combine the oscillator you've selected with an external
audio source, or if no audio source is connected, [Ebm] [Abm]
[N] a white noise generator.
[B] The oscillator is then fed into the classic [Eb] Moog ladder [B] filter.
[Db] This has the [Eb] same [B] fat, [Ebm] warm, buttery sound and response [Abm] that forms the heart of the Moog experience.
[Ebm] [Db]
[Eb] Variable resonance [B] lets you [N] get super squelchy and even drive the filter into self-oscillation.
[Ebm]
[Abm] [Db]
[Ebm] [Db] [Ebm] [N]
Currently the filter is being modulated by the envelope generator.
On the Mother 32, the envelope is defined by a two-part [Ebm] attack and [Abm] decay [Db] with [Ebm] [Abm]
[Ebm] [Abm] [Db] [Ebm] a switchable
[Abm] sustain [Db] [Ebm] for [Abm] when you want [Db] to craft [Ebm] a bass [B] or a lead.
[Db] [Ebm] These [Db] are analog [Ebm] envelopes, so [Abm] they're super [Eb] snappy [B] when you want them to be [Ebm] and can get
great plucky tones, perfect for arpeggios.
[Abm]
[Db] [Ebm] [Abm] [Bbm] [Ebm] [B]
[Ebm] [B]
The filter can also be modulated by the onboard LFO.
[Eb] [Ab] The LFO has two [B] waveforms, triangle and [Db] square wave, [Ebm]
[B] [Db] [Eb] [B] [Db] [Ebm]
[Abm] [Gb] [Abm] [Db]
and it features [Ebm] [Abm] a [Eb] huge variety of rates
[Ebm] that drive almost into the audible range.
[Abm] [Ebm]
[Abm] [Ebm] [Abm] [Db] [Ebm] The LFO can also be used to drive the voltage-controlled oscillator modulation.
[F] [Ebm]
[Abm] There are two destinations for the VCO [Ebm] [Abm] modulation, [Ebm] the pulse width [Abm] and the frequency.
[Ebm]
Using a triangle wave to [Abm] drive the [Ebm] pulse width modulation [Ab] gives you that classic, [Ebm] coarse [Abm]-y PWM [Eb] sound.
[B] It can [N] also drive the frequency.
We can also modulate the VCO via the envelope generator.
Modulating the frequency with the envelope generator allows us to create percussive sounds.
Let's switch back to that nice PWM saw-square-wave [Eb] sound now.
[Abm] Now what's generating these notes is the onboard step [Ebm] sequencer.
The sequencer on the MOTHER32 [B] is designed [Gb] to excel at [B] live performance and be highly [Db] interactive.
[Ebm] There are a couple [B] different modes, keyboard and [Db] step.
[Ebm] [B]
[Ebm] In the keyboard mode we can interact [Ab] with the sequence and transpose it into [E] different keys.
[Gbm] [D] [Gb] [D]
[Dbm] [A] [B] [Db] [A]
[B] [Db] [A] In step mode [Dbm] we [Gb] can bring [Db] various steps [A] in and out [Abm] [Gb] to reshape the rhythmic [A] feel [Db] of the [Gb] pattern.
[Db] [Gbm] [N] We can control the [A] tempo of the pattern and introduce glide with [F] these controls, which
can also be repurposed to add shuffle or swing, [A]
or add live ratchets to individual steps.
[B] [Dbm] [Gbm]
We can add live accents, [Db] [Gb]
[Dbm] combine ratchets and accents to really punch up the step.
[A]
[B] [Dbm] [A] Combining the keyboard mode, the step mode, accents and [B] ratchets [A] allows you to reshape
your [Bm] patterns [Gb] on the fly and [Db] make a truly interactive [A] performance.
[B] Let's dig in more to the sequencer, try out some new sounds and see what the MOTHER32 [Gbm] can do.

[E] Thanks [Db] for checking out [E] the Moog MOTHER32.
[Eb] You can find these every [N] day on Reverb.com.
Now you've seen how the MOTHER32 sounds on its own, but let's hear how it sounds in a
fully modular system.
See you next time.
