Mo Pitney - The Music Man chords
Start Jamming...
[D] About a year and a half ago, I really started to ask myself the question,
why am I doing what I'm doing?
And pride is a killer.
And when I moved down here, I knew I was doing things for the wrong reasons for a time,
and God had to give me a 2x4 up the back of the head
[E] to try to wake me up and remind me why I started doing what I was doing.
Along the process of doing it for the wrong reasons, I stopped enjoying it.
Because pride and thankfulness can't go together.
And when I stopped treating it as a gift,
and treated it for something for my own selfish gain,
I stopped feeling like that little kid sitting on the end of his bed enjoying playing his guitar.
Really because his dad played guitar.
But I was talking to my buddy Bobby Tomberland [D] about this,
and a week later he came to me and had half of this song, or the first verse, written.
And we finished it together, and I'm sure it's going to be on the next album.
But it's kind of my letter to myself, my letter to Nashville, or anybody who'll hear our music.
It's called A Music Man.
[G] [D]
[A] [D] I didn't come here to be famous
[G] Or [D]
to [Bm] see my [G] name in light
I didn't [E] come here for the [A] money
[D] [A]
Awards don't [D] even cross my mind
[G] [D] But as long as I can remember
I've had [F#] a [D] guitar in [G] my hand
[G] It's like God looked at [D] me from heaven
That [A] I think I'll make [D] a music man
[G] [D] And it was deep down in [G] my bone
[Dm]
Woven in my [Bm] heart and soul
Just a kid [G] there on my bed
Trying to get out what hurt [A] his head
[G]
[A] Now I [D] live out [G] on a stage
There's people here to hear [Bm] us play
[G] So I'm just giving [Em] you a song
You [A]
might remember [D] when I'm gone
[G] [D] You [F#m] might ask what [D] keeps me going
Through the airports [G] and the rain
You know I just love to see [A] your faces
[D] [A] Though I may [D] never know your name
[E] [D] Truth is I think I found my purpose
Down [F#m] here in the [G] grand design
That's just to sing the words [A]
God gives me
[G] [F#m] [A] I know he's with me [D] all the time
[G] [D] And it's deep down in [G] my bone
Woven in my [Bm] heart and soul
[G] Still a kid out on the road
Don't ever have to [A] be alone
[G] [A] [G]
[A] And now I'm on another [G]
stage
And you're all here to [Bm] hear us play
[G] So I'm [Em] just giving you a song
[A] For you to remember [Em] [Bm] when I'm
[G] gone
Let me [D] leave you [Em] with this song
You might [A] remember [D] when I'm gone
[G] [D]
[N]
I'm still doing it for the same reasons, so
I've had that conversation with a lot of musicians
and friends of mine.
Thank you.
Good stuff.
Now he's doing it for money.
Yeah, try to hire him sometime.
Just not much.
Sheriff, [Bm] thank you.
Thank you.
Mo, thank you.
Wow.
You just keep doing better and better.
Let's get out of here for a minute,
we'll be right back.
Well, you know, Larry,
we could work [A] you into that song.
[D] Larry will [F#] sell you a [G] footlong
that you'll remember when he's [D] gone.
That's right.
Be back in just a moment.
