At the very end, Denny [Ab] came in a false beginning.
[B] But he came in so strong and so beautifully [Ab] that we left it.
[Ebm] It sounds like a mistake,
[Abm] it is a mistake, and we loved it.
[B] That's how we left it.
[E]
I saw her, [B] I [A] saw her in the eye
[D] [A]
I [E] let her go, this dream [A] of mine
[G] [A]
[Db] [Gbm] [E] I've been [A] waiting all my life
[G] I've been thinking [Gbm] of love
[B]
[F] We did five albums with at least [Ebm] ten, so it's like forty songs.
And to say which one of those, my God, is some beautiful, beautiful stuff.
My personal [Bbm] favorite is a song called Dancing [Ebm] Bear.
It's talking about a chimney [Ab] sweep.
[Bb] I wouldn't want to be [Gb] a chimney sweep
All [F] black from head [Db] to foot
From climbing in them chimneys
And cleaning out that soot
And with flutes and oboes, it was not rock and roll, but it was a beautiful [Ebm] little song.
Oh, wouldn't want to be a chimney sweep
All black from head to foot
From climbing in them [Gb] chimneys
And cleaning out [Bb] that soot
With a [B] broom and ladder [Bb] and pail
The darkened walls I scale
And far and high
[Gb] I see [Bb] a patch of [F]
[Ab] sky
[Ebm] I'd rather be the [Abm] gypsy
[Ebm] Who's camped at the edge of town
[Abm] [Ebm] The one who'll have the dancing [Gb] bear
That follows him [Bb] all round
And he lifts his big foot up
He puts his big foot down
[Bbm] And bows and [B] twirls
[Bb] And dances round [Ebm] and round
I wouldn't want to be a chimney sweep
All black [Bb] from head to foot
[B] From
[Ebm] climbing in
[Bbm] [Eb] [Ab]

John could have gone on writing forever.
As far as his vocal arranging, I think that he and Brian Wilson
maybe are the best vocal arrangers in the last 40 years, 50 years maybe.
We were basically a studio [E] group, and we recorded [Gb] constantly.
We only [B] did about 40 or 50 live appearances
in that whole time we were together.
[F]
One, two.
[Bbm] Once was a time I thought [Eb] that nothing was so remarkable
And everything [F] fell in place for me
[Gm] One, two, three.
One, two.
[F] One, two, three.
[Bbm] [Bb] Once was a time I [Eb] thought that nothing was so remarkable
And everything [F] fell in place [Bbm] for me
It was a [Gb] matter of stacking [Bb] voices and stacking [G] arrangements
because the vocal arrangements I wanted to do were more like [F] Gregorian chants.
It took about 100 people to do them.
[D] But the equipment wasn't up to handling [Eb] that kind of stuff.
Fortunately we found Bones Howe, [E]
who was a [Eb] brilliant engineer
who was able to just see it all in his mind.
I talked it over with Bones on how many vocals I wanted to put on
And he said, I don't know, you [C] know, we're going to stretch the tape or something.
So we just [F] put layer upon [Cm] layer upon layer upon layer.
And it fell in [Bbm] place for me
[Ab] Wait a minute.
[Bb] Michelle can do [Bbm] anything she wants.
No, she can't.
[G]
Dedicated to One I Love is probably a perfect example of [A] John's rearranging ability.
It does a couple things.
It gives Michelle her rock and roll moment.
It's a song that she loved.
She gets to be out front on it, [D] which she wasn't on maybe on one or two [A] songs or three songs.
[D] While I'm far [G] away from you, [Em] my baby
[Am]
