This is a new tutorial, one that so many people have asked me to do.
So I'm doing it.
It's about the organ, it's about mixing it, it's about processing it, it's about whatever you want to call it.
It's the organ, we're going to do it.
There's a piano, there's some bass, let's listen.
[Ab] [Cm] [Eb] [Ab]
[Cm] [Eb]
[Fm] So yeah, there you have it.
A few bits there.
But we need an organ in there.
So what I'm going to do is, I've got the M1 loaded here.
[Eb] Nothing on the left.
I've cleared everything.
I'm going to go Load, I'm going to go Organ 2.
[Cm] Just like that, and there you have it.
[Bm]
There she is, right.
First of all, I'm going to, there's no effects on the master apart from the exciter.
I'm going to leave the exciter on.
And the easy effects, I'm going to remove the chorus, I'm going to remove the reverb.
[F] I'm also going to turn that oscillator up because it's super quiet.
[Cm] [Ab] Now for the notes, I'm going to use the bass channel.
I'm going to copy them bass notes, put them into my organ channel.
[C] There you have it.
[Eb] [F] [Eb] So there you have it, nice and dry, ready for our processing.
And I'm going to start with a compressor.
[F]
[C] [B] Not too much, man.
You can always compress a little bit, no matter what.
Just always compress a little bit.
Just a little [Eb] bit.
[Ab]
[C] [Eb] [G] See, that's just catching the peaks so it'll fit in the mix better.
And I'm going to take away the low end on this because I've got my [F] bass for the low end.
[C] So we're basically going to be layering the organ with our original bass.
So find yourself a nice bass and then layer the organ with it.
That's the way I do it.
Right, back to the organ.
[Eb] So after the compressor, I'm going to add the EQ.
I'm just going to grab a basic EQ here, guys.
You've probably got a fancy one.
The best one you've got.
Stick it on, use it, [Bb] get it in there, make it sound good.
So I'm rolling the bottom off.
[Eb] [Fm]
[G] [Eb] [Ab] [G]
[Ab]
[C] [Eb] [Ab] [C]
That's about right, that's about right.
So then I'm going to add some high end because it's really muffled this.
I mean, if I play that in the mix now, [Cm] you [Eb]
[Ab]
[Cm] can only just hear it, can't you?
I mean, we need to get some high end on that.
One thing I've noticed about this organ is mainly it just lacks high end.
It's just so low.
I mean, it's old, guys.
It came out 25, maybe even 30 years ago.
[Eb] [Fm]
[Cm] [Ab] [Cm]
So you've really got to boost that high.
I'm using headphones at the minute and they're [F] not very great also.
If that's too much and it sounds a bit dodgy in the mix, then let me know.
Leave a comment and I'll
[Cm]
[C] But from what I can hear, that sounds alright.
So this is where you've got to think about it yourself.
I mean, you might want to add some
Like I took the chorus off.
You could have even left the chorus on.
I mean, if I go back and put that chorus on
[Fm] [Cm] [Ab]
[G] [Eb] [Ab] [Eb]
See?
See, you can leave that on if you want, but I'm just going to take it off for now
because we're just going for the basics, you know what I mean?
So what I will add is a cool little trick.
I've got a mono delay.
Set it to half a note.
Roll off the lows.
Mix down.
[Cm] [Eb] [Ab] [F] Then you get that cool effect where the notes are bouncing off each [Cm] other.
[Eb] [Ab]
[C] [Eb] [Cm] [Eb]
So there you have it.
Then
By the way, before Actually, yeah.
After the delay, I'll add some sidechain.
So the sidechain's working on the delay.
I'm going to set that to nice and tight because that's what I've got the preset as for the bass.
So [G] I'm assuming that [Eb] goes with the kick.
So [Ab] [C]
[Eb] yeah, there's a nice bit of sidechain with the Nicky Romero kickstart.
I'm sure you've got that one.
Everyone's got that one.
And then I'll add some reverb because that's a bit dry.
I'll just add this reverb for now.
[E] I'll make sure there's no low.
[Ab] [Cm]
[C]
So yeah, that [Cm] should sound a lot better in the mix now.
[Abm] [Ab]
[Eb] [Fm] [Eb]
[Ab] [Cm] [Fm] [Ab]
The one thing it mixes well with [Cm] is the piano.
[Ab]
[Cm] [Eb] [Cm] [Eb]
[Cm] [Ab]
[Cm] It mixes really well with that piano.
[Eb] If I take that out
[Cm] [Eb] [Ab] [Cm] [Fm] [Cm]
[Fm]
[Cm] [Ab] [Cm]
So I'm doing it.
