[C] [F] Music is so many different things.
[Gm] To me it's just all music, [Bb] so it's quite natural for
me to make [F] a rock album as it is to make a classical album.
[Eb] When I first [Gm] heard [F] Luke Spiller's vocal, which my record company sent me, I thought,
[Gm] wow, that's the voice we need.
[Bb] I'm Luke Spiller.
[F] I'm guest vocalist on Michael Oldfield's new [Eb] album, Man on the Rock, and
I'm in a band called The Struts.
When there [Gm] was talks of doing the new [Dm] album, I got [Ab] a
phone call from the head of my label, and he informed me that Mike was doing [Eb] a new album.
In the beginning I [Bb] needed something to listen to, and I put the voice [Dm] on myself.
Then there
was a long period of trying to decide [Ab] who should sing it, should it be a male vocal,
should it be a [Eb] mixture of male and female, and we had a whole list of [F] possibilities.
After the first couple of sessions, it just seemed [Bb] really good and natural, and then Mike
[F] heard the tracks and he was really excited about it, so it just went on from there really.
[Eb]
[F]
[Bb] Well we just [F] did everything mostly by Skype.
Obviously as the internet's [Eb] become faster and faster, live communications between [F] content
is not a problem on the internet anymore.
I had two Skype feeds, one of Luke in the
vocal booth and one of Steve [Gm] Lipson, Nick, our producer in the [Bb] control room.
I had [F] Mike in the vocal booth telling me how he'd want me to phrase certain [Eb] things and
put across certain emotions.
[F]
[Gm] [Bb] Sometimes it was a little bit [F] difficult to get their attention, so I would be in my studio going,
[Eb] Hi
[Bb] [Dm]
[Ab]
[Eb]
[F]
Mike, [G] welcome to the [Ab] Bahamas, [F] great to see you.
[G] Yeah, I didn't meet him until [C] 24 hours ago, so it was a [Db] real honour to [Gm] meet him, yeah.
At the [Cm] beginning we were [G] deciding whether [Cm] to do [G] the live sessions in London with English
musicians [D] or [G] to do them in their name.
Those sessions were [C] superb, I can tell you, and
I was just [G] hearing my music done by, played by these fantastic musicians.
The demos I was working towards were [A] still [G] pretty high standard anyway, and when I heard
the final sort of like versions with the people [D] from LA, [G] it was just sort of like the icing
[C] on the cake.
sky all dark [G] and
[Am] [Em] grey
Because the demos were [Am] first [Em] take stuff, it was like the guitars [F] on sailing, the acoustic
guitar, I [G] couldn't do that better.
So we [Am] ended up using the [Em] guitars from [Am] the demo
[Em] but with the rest of the live [D] band.
That just sort of like made it that little bit more [G] sweeter.
moonshine in the [D] rain, and raised our [C] glasses to the wind, [G] the day that we [C] dreamed
we could be [G] free, riding on [Em]
wings of liberty.
[D] So [G] here's one more for our [D] friends, and [C] here's
one for our [G] children, feeling [C] the cold rain on our [G] fingertips, [Em] and [D] moonshine on [C] our lips.
[G]
And there'll [Em] be a terrible [D]
[Bm] scandal
[Em] I don't think of myself as a songwriter at all.
You come out of the blue really, [D] writing
lyrics [B] that actually come from you, from [Em] your deepest [N] emotions, [Em] sort of resonate in [N] people's
general lives.
That means in the end I'm a songwriter.
[E] That's not exactly how I think of myself.
[D] so [Em]
great now, we are in [D]
[A] now
The album [Em] as a whole, I think it's pretty [D] strong, but [Em] I really [A] like [D] Man on the [A] Rocks.
I think when I first heard it, it reminded me of like, it has like a Pink Floyd kind
of vibe [B] to it.
And [Em] so I was getting really excited [E] about that [D] from day one.
[Bm] It's a great
track to sing.
will [Em] be chariots to [D]
carry [B] us home, will [Em] be chariots [C] to [D] carry [Em] us home
[C] [D] [Em]
[D]
[Bm] [Em]
[E] I felt the pressure a bit.
I wanted to please [Em] the fans and I hope they really enjoy it.
And [E] most of all, I wanted to please Mike.
So I knew being true to myself more than anything
[C] would do that.
[G]
[C]
let me [G] out
It's nice to, you know, I was just thinking like, as soon as I sort of landed [C] here, you
know, listening to the album, I can [G] see the album now, not just hear it.
You know, I can
[C] identify with everything that he was talking about.
It's not like I make [G]
songs about, you know, la la la, baby this, you know, it's just real
[Am] powerful stuff, you know?
Sit up and [G] listen stuff.
I'm just really excited about it and I feel really [F] blessed and [G] honoured that [C] people are so interested.
[G]
sail [C] with me
Really what I was trying to do [G] with this album, the sailing was almost saying, I'm fed up
[Fm] with this, I'm off.
[Gm] [Em] So people can't judge the album just by [G] listening to sailing.
[C]
[G]
[F] [G] [C]
you know if you wanna [G] come with me, we can sail away, [C] cross the line, if you've got
