Metallica vs Megadeth War | If Darkness Had A Son chords
Start Jamming...
Please forgive me Papa Head for I have sinned.
Sporting the swag of your nemesis.
[N] Mwahahahaha.
Holy f***.
The greatest metal band in all the land has released a new single called If Darkness Had a Sun.
Crazy because just as Dave Mustaine was flying high with the Marty Friedman Megadeth reunion BAM!
Metallica annihilates Megadeth's dreams with a fresh cut.
Give into your darkness with me as we watch the brand new video release for this track.
I [F] don't get it twisted, I realize you may be tempted to finger the G string 69 minutes
per day, but you can't just handle your hardwood with no direction.
Score my free guitar newsletter below to get free tabs, tips, and tricks.
It's free, so what do you got to lose?
Also, I want to mention [G] it's free.
Indulge your temptation [F] further with my full music theory course to get on Metallica's level.
Now I'm going to be honest with you, it's time to choose.
Will you go with the red pill or the blue pill?
Here we are at the official Metallica page.
And let's see what the people are saying.
Thank you Metallica, your music saves, your words, your [Bb] music, it helps.
Strong review there.
Bleu says hello everyone, as I said before, Raze.
The song breaks your head.
Ouch.
Super cool.
I'm very anxious to hear everything.
Complete the album.
I love you guys.
Metallica forever.
[B] In me.
Oh, easy there.
All right, let's get the cans of power on and see what we got cooking for this new track.
Go.
[E]
[Em] Okay, just some random noise.
[F]
What was that?
[N] Enter Lars.
[E]
[B] Oh [C] yeah, it sounds heavy [E] so far.
It's like a death [B] march.
[E] [Em] [C]
[E] Strong melody.
[D] [C]
[E] Got some exotic influence there with the flat second.
Actually, it was a flat second there.
You're looking crazy.
[E] Okay, another [Em] melody.
[E]
[Em] And this one does have a flat second.
[E]
All right, things are getting going.
I hear the bass.
You hear Robert in there thumping on his G string?
Almost some Lux Aeterna optics with the light in the video.
All right, it's time to get going here.
Temptation to like Megadeth is so [Em] strong.
Don't [E] do it.
Resist the urge.
The [A]
beast still [C] shouts for [B] what it's [A] yearning.
Scopes for [Db] fire, desire [E] burning.
The never-ending, [G] trenchless craving.
[A]
The [G] unforgiving, misbehaving.
[E]
Unquenchable fire for what it's yearning.
The beast wants what it wants.
That's a cool lyrical line.
I like the chromaticism in the guitar part.
Oh, it's a bit risky to play those out of key chords.
Let's see what happens next.
[E] Okay, so back to the main [D] figure.
If life [B] is not a sword, [F] here I am.
[E] Temptation is water. [D] Chorus.
If life [E] is not a sword, [F] here I am.
[C] Flat [E] two degree there.
[D] [E] Temptation made me fail.
[N] Philosophical underpinnings here of this message
is that maybe we make bad decisions
when we're under temptation.
Fair enough, [E] Popahet.
Back to that exotic lick.
Makes me want to lick the G string.
[F]
[E] Oh, back to this.
[F]
I would cut this [E] part out, go straight into the next verse.
Temptation [Em]
[A] [D] exonerates your eyes.
[Gm] I love the lighting.
Okay, verse two.
The [Db] [Gb]
nightmare [Db] search for infiltration.
[F] Domination, [E] captivation.
A lot of rhyming there.
Okay, yeah, very [B] long-winded arrangement.
[F] Now we're in chorus [D] two.
[E] Temptation [D] is water.
If life [E] is not a sword, [F] here I am.
[C] I pray [E] the [D] holy water.
I pray the [E] holy water.
Holy whap-juice water.
[G] Bridge time.
[E]
[Em] London Bridge [D] is falling [E] down.
Ooh, [G] [E] that's mean.
[D]
Okay, solo.
Let's see what we got here.
The war pedal is on.
[E]
Watts that you say, Kirk?
Fast licks.
[F]
[G] At blues [E]
scale, he's using fights
[Em] against the Phrygian mode in the rip a [F] little.
[G] Yeah, see that flat two right there?
Ouch.
[Em]
Ooh, [F] cool change.
[G] [Em]
Parking past each [Gb] other a little [F] bit here,
between the rhythm [G] and lead.
[E]
[Em]
Love the solar flares.
[E]
[Em] It's triple pop [A]-up.
[Eb] Return again to where it's darkest.
[Ab]
Dragging [Gb] home the seed that's planted.
Turn again to where it's darkest.
All the [Eb] children [G] subjugated.
[Abm]
[F] Manipulated.
[G] Abandoned.
[E] What does that mean?
Just a lot of rhyming.
[Em] I like this melody.
I like [B] the death march.
[F] [D] Third time's a [E] charm.
Back to the chorus.
[D] God [E] is not a sword, [F] here I am.
I [E] pray the holy [Dm] water.
[E]
[C] [E] Darkness has a sword.
[C] Ooh, double chorus.
[E] Darkness has [C] a sword.
That'd probably trim a little bit out of this [E] song.
[F] [C] Feels like it's [E] lagging a bit.
[D] [E]
Heh, Sleepy P Temptation.
Well, it's not how [A] temptation works.
It won't get ya.
[Bb] Just [E] like Dana Stained.
[Bb] [E]
[Bb] [E]
Alright.
[Dm] [E]
[Bb] [E]
[Bb] [E]
Some octaves [Bb] here.
[E]
[Em] [E] [C] [E]
That's a [A] cool bass effect.
[Em] [E]
Reminds me of Cliff Burton.
Now what do you think of that track?
Is it their [N] best so far from the new album?
That's the third [Ab] one they've released.
I would say overall [F] the lyrical depth on this track was not quite there.
The video optics were really on point here.
It looked fantastic.
Now let's talk about the songwriting.
I really dig that death march.
And there was a strong melodic hook that Kirk Hammett was playing.
Overall the arrangement is a bit sluggish though.
They needed to cut out the intro and make that shorter.
Then they came back to it before the second verse.
And that was way too much.
[E] She used a little bit more dynamic range in terms of key changes.
Solo was a little whack to be honest.
Because Kirk was kind of playing in this scale over here.
And then Popahet was kind of playing in this scale.
Another scale over here.
And they just kind of clashed.
Learn more about songwriting and what the hell I'm talking about with my full music theory course below.
I gotta run because Dave Mustaine is trying to give me a copyright strike on my last video.
Dammit Dave.
Can't we just be friends?
What do you mean we can't be friends?
I gave you a copyright [D] strike today.
It might be more of a red pill [N] kind of day.
