Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Piano Tutorial Part 1 chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everyone, this is a tutorial I'm currently in the process of making for Melancholy and
the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins.
This is a piano tutorial, it might be a little hard for some people, but it's a pretty easy
song, I'll try to go slow.
Never made a tutorial before, trying to keep my head out of the camera shot.
I apologize if you catch some of my lovely, lovely haircut.
And here we go.
So this entire song begins with this, which I will play for you.
[Db]
[Ebm]
[Gb] [Db]
[Ebm]
[Gb] [B]
[Gb] [Db]
So that's just this part of the [Bbm] video right now.
So this is what I'm gonna try to explain.
Maybe I'll take it one hand at a time, I don't know.
So your right hand [Db] plays a C sharp major chord, which consists of the C sharp, the F, and
the G sharp.
And your left hand, you'll play the same chord.
So split at the same time.
Then you'll [Fm] arpeggiate, which means to [Bbm] play a chord from bottom to top.
Probably use that word a lot, might want to remember it.
So [Db] you play this, then you play the C chord up here twice.
And I know I'm saying C [Bbm] chord, it's a C sharp chord.
[Bbm] It's easier than saying C sharp chord all the time.
[Db] Play both chords, arpeggiate the bottom, play the top chord twice.
That's just the beginning.
Then in your [Eb] right hand, you'll play a little run, which I'm gonna play a couple times slowly.
You guys can review it as many times as you want.
You'll just have to remember this run, we'll play it a lot throughout the song.
[Bbm] [Gb] [F] [Bbm]
[Bb] [Gb]
[G] [F] [Eb]
[Db] [Bb] [Bbm]
So that's just that run.
Just [Bb] keep remembering that, practice it, do it over and over, make sure you have it memorized.
[F] [Eb]
[Db] [Bbm] And then in your left hand, while you do that run, with your right, you're gonna be playing chords.
[Gm] So those chords [F] are pretty simple, it's gonna be [Ebm]
a
That's an F, no sorry, [Bbm] D sharp minor.
[Ab]
[F] [Ebm] So in that run, when you [F]
go back [Gb] to hit this note, that's when you'll play the F sharp
minor chord with your right hand.
[Bbm]
[Eb] [Bb] And then there's one more chord [Eb] you play during that run.
So you play [Ebm] the
And you [Gb] play it, sorry, D sharp minor, I keep saying D [Bbm]
sharp minor.
Then [Gb] you play an F sharp, not minor or major, just F sharp.
[Db] So [Gb]
[Bb] when you're playing this run, [Gb] [Bbm] [Ebm] [F] D sharp minor.
[Ebm] [Gb]
[Db]
[Ebm] [Gb]
Then we go back to the beginning of the same [Gb] thing.
[Db]
That's the exact same thing we did at the very beginning of the song.
Then you play the run again.
[Ebm]
[Gb]
But instead of going back to the beginning this time, we repeat the run with slightly [F] different chords.
[Ebm] [Gb]
[B] [Gb]
I was [F] getting ahead of myself there.
So I'll play that one more time.
[Ebm]
[Gb] [B]
[Gb] [Bbm] So in your right hand, you're playing that run.
Then you repeat it again from here.
[Gb] [F] [Eb]
[Bbm] So the first part, [Ebm] you're playing the same chords.
[Gb]
But then when you [F] [Eb] [Bbm] play
Instead of [Ebm] playing the D sharp minor, you play [B] a B chord, which consists of E, [Eb] D sharp.
[Gb] [F] [Ebm]
[Gb] [Bbm]
Now you play the [B] B [Eb]
[Gb] sharp chord again.
And that's that.
And then you go back and you play the [Db] C again with your left hand.
The C sharp, sorry.
But instead of playing the whole C chord with your left hand, you just play the C sharp.
RPG,
[Bb] [Bbm]
just do [Db] that.
Just remember that.
[Bbm] Alright.
So that's pretty much the first part.
I'm going to replay the entire thing.
You guys can go back to the end of the video, watch as much as you want, try to learn the whole thing.
And then memorize this, just memorize this much before you watch the second video.
So I'll play the whole thing again.
[Db]
[Ebm] [Gb]
[Db]
[Ebm] [Gb]
[B] [Gb]
[Db]
[Ebm] [Gb]
[E] [B] Sorry, that last part is actually going to be in the next video.
Well anyway, yeah, that's pretty much that.
So if you guys want to drop me a like, drop me a subscribe, leave a comment, a question,
did I not explain something well, anything I should do next time, just drop me a line.
So thank you all for watching and see you next time.
