Mean Mary plays "Iron Horse" on her Banjo. (August 13, 2022) chords
Start Jamming...
This is one I wrote with my [Em] mom and we won an IMA [E] for Beth [C] Americana song.
It's about a race between an alien maid and a horse racing against the train.
[Gm] [Cm]
Though the plains and snows do erase beneath the summer sun,
Misty eyes but his so blue as soaring spirits gleam as one.
He placed our love across the skies, surrendered to its ancient form.
Until the day he said goodbye and climbed aboard the iron horse.
But its charge out in the shrill as [G] it chastened up the great divine.
Though my speed [Cm] out the stronger wheel, [G] the iron horse had the [C] longest stride.
[Cm]
[G] [Gm]
[C] [C] [Cm]
With a gun in my cable aid I loathed the screaming smoky crud.
I putty levers in the air made a ride like wind and asking why.
I strutted my fearless painted gun, I chose my pace and set my course.
To catch this demon on the run my speed against the iron horse.
But its charge out in the shrill as it [D] chastened up the great divine.
Though my speed out the stronger wheel, [G] the iron horse had the [C] longest stride.
[Cm]
[G] [C]
[Cm] Through the thunder of its flare I yelled my fury at the beast.
Wasted words are lost in the air as it hoards its way forever east.
And the iron horse is speeding.
