Hi, I'm Ainsley Lister and I'm just going to talk to you a bit [N] about my guitar that
means, you know, kind of special guitar.
This is a Japanese Fender Strat from about 1988.
I got this when I was 12 and I was pretty happy about it and it was brand new at the
time and I kind of learnt to play on it really, learnt all of my stuff on it and it's been
around the world with me and has served me really, really well.
And I never used to think
that much of it really.
You know, it was my first Strat, it was £229.
Actually, sorry,
no, £269 because we bought a case with it as well, a package deal.
When my dad originally
took me into the shop to get this guitar, we didn't go for the guitar, we only went
for a case.
I wanted one of the Fender moulded cases for my Marlin Slammer Strat copy.
But
the shop assistant said I can throw a guitar in with that for another £229 so we ended
up walking out with the red Strat and the case and the Marlin Slammer just got put away
in a cupboard.
And I always wanted an American Strat, never actually got one and it wasn't
until I tried to replace it and get a Sumba Strat or a white one that I realised this
is actually a really, really good Strat that just has this sound.
And I suppose because
I've played it since I was 12, which is quite a while, that's like 28 years, yeah, it's
got a lot of DNA on there.
It's been refretted about four times, I've changed the pickups
to Lindy Frayley and Blue Specials, which I did probably about 20 years ago, so most
of the main touring it's done it's had these pickups.
But I put these in and they just
worked straight away.
But if I lost this guitar I'd be really pretty upset, not because
it's worth a lot of money because it's not, it's just got a sentimental thing and I think
if I play this guitar I'd definitely play it differently to any other Strat or any other
guitar that I've got just because I've spent so long with it really.
But yeah, it just
goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune to find a good guitar.
They're not all good,
I'm sure there's a lot of these late 80s Jap ones that are not great, but this is just
a particularly good one.
And as you can see it's the neck's pretty
that's all me by
the way, it's not Relict.
Just play to death really, like I say, fourth set of frets that's
in it at the minute I think, big jumbo frets, master tone, other than that just what you see.
