[A] Welcome back folks.
Matt Hillier's [E] solo album, If These Old Bones Could Talk, was produced by my [B] good friend Lloyd Maynes.
Now the title track off the [C#m] project is a definite standout.
[B] I just love the [A] story and the tune.
Now we're pretty sure you're gonna love it too.
[E] If These Old Bones Could Talk, I had the idea for a while, [A] because I have a box of dominoes.
I like playing [C#m] dominoes.
My grandfather's [B] dominoes is one of the only things
[E] He died when my mom was 16, so I never knew him.
It was one of the only actual things of his that I have.
I've always kind of cherished him and always thought about,
wow, these [A] dominoes are old, they're really cool, and [B] I wonder what kind of situation they saw,
what kind of conversations around the table [E] happened with these dominoes.
And I had the idea, [A] Steve and I toyed with it a little [B] bit, but nothing ever happened with it.
And then I went to [C#m] Mexico on this trip that we [B] go on every year, [E] and Max Stalling was there,
[A] Mark David Manders was there, [E] the Tejas brothers were there, so I was [B] just hanging out in my room,
and I got a call from Max and [C#m] Mark, and said, hey, we're up [B] here at the Sky Bar, [E] imagine, in the middle of the day.
But yeah, they said, come on up here, bring your guitar, let's have some fun.
And I'm not [A] even sure if we really talked about writing a song or not, but I [C#m] definitely, when I left the room,
I had it in [B] mind that we're going to work, [E] we're gonna do this.
And then Dave Perez came, we called him in on it as well,
and it was just probably [A] one of those really rare occasions when you get [C#m] 4 different [B] creative voices together.
[E] I remember it finally as one of the funnest days I've ever had, [C#m] songwriting, and then also just proud of the song.
[A] [E]
[B] [E] [B] These old bones could talk, they'd say we came [E] from Waco, Texas, [C#m] it was a different [A] time, different [B] kind of game.
[E] Cadillac green marblet [A] that aged [E] slightly [A] yellowed, and the boxes torn [E] and tattered, but the memories still remain.
[C#] Grey smoke [B] above, [A] and an old dog [B] on the floor, [C#m] a piece of chalk on a black slate [A] tabletop, a forky [B] pencil.
Old
[E] friends, the stories [A] of the places and the ones they love, [E] all the secrets they'd [B] unlock if these old bones could [E] talk.
[C#m]
[A] [E] [C#]
[B] [E] First time these bones left the [A] box, a young [E] boy built a castle, [C#m] set them up and knocked [A] them down just to watch the kingdom [B] fall.
The [E] first time that the boy left [A] home, he took those [E] same bones with him [A] when he went to fight for freedom on [F#] the day his country [E] called.
[C#m] Halfway around the [F#] world with [A] dominoes stowed [B] in his gear, [C#] he knew a game of [C#m] 42 with [A] friends could wash [B] away the fear.
Grey [E] market, old friends, the stories of [A] the places and the [E] ones they love, all the secrets they'd unlock [B] if these old [E] bones could talk.
[B]
[A] [E] [C#m]
[B] [E] Next to you a picture full of [A] uniforms in the center [E] of a mansion, a young boy asked his father, [A] daddy, what's [B] inside this box?
He [E] said, now these are dominoes, my [A] son, and it's time for [E] you to have them.
[A] Feel free to build a [B] castle with your brand new building [E] blocks.
[C#m] There may not be [A] instructions that can tell you [B] how to play, but if [C#m] these old bones could talk, [A] I can tell you [B] what they'd say.
[E] Talk about old friends, the stories [A] of the places and the ones they [E] love, all the secrets [B] they'd unlock if these old [E] bones could talk.
Talk about old friends, the stories [A] of the places and the ones they love, [E] all the secrets they'd [B] unlock if these old bones [E] could talk.
If these old bones could talk, they'd [A] say we came from [E] Waco, Texas.
Though [A] the players [E] may be different, [B] the game remains the same.
