I had the great pleasure, privilege, honor, and thrill of my life to open shows for the fabulous Mr.
Vinske.
Woo!
And we did that for almost like a year and a half or something.
[C] It was just great.
It was just the best.
We were [N] playing these huge coliseums and rollerblading during soundcheck.
It was great.
And he would have these big meet and greets and receptions after every show.
Well, I should also preface it by saying, I suppose by now you've probably noted that I tend to switch out guitars nearly every song.
And that's for reasons of tuning.
The right guitar for the right song.
You're on the cut scene.
And so I've always done that.
So at one of these receptions, a gentleman came up to me and he looked at me and he said,
Well, you sure you change guitars all night long?
And I said, Yes, [D] sir, I do.
And he said, Well, do you really play [Dm] those things or are they just props?
[E] [Eb]
[N] [G]
[Gm] [N] And his question reminded me of other fabulous questions [Eb] that I've been asked throughout my career.
[N] One of my favorites is, Is that a real song or did you write it?
[Eb] [Cm]
[N] If there are any musicians here, I'm sure they have encountered this as well.
Are you local or professional?
So there you have it.
Interesting question.
The thing is, I didn't really know what to say to [B] this gentleman that night.
He [Bb] asked me if this was a prop.
I [Ebm] was so [A] [N] surprised.
And so I decided I would write a musical answer.
And so I did.
And while I remember recording it, I was completely stoked when Wynonna Judd [G] decided to.
[Cm] [G]
[Gm] [Am] [G] [D]
[G] [D]
[C] [G] [D] Throw her in the [Em] car and have you [C] see her throw [D] up.
Borrowed that [C] guitar and [G] that was the [A] beginning.
She's now in the [D] cellar with the [G] afterthought.
[Dm] [G] Girls with [C] guitars.
[G] That is what it means.
Girls with guitars.
[D] What's the [Gm] world coming to?
Girls [C] with guitars.
Mother's [G] hand over her hip hop.
Girls with guitars.
It's a new feeling.
[Gm]
[G]
[A] [G] She followed her brother, getting his socks and his stockings on the old jet floor.
Everybody [C] answered, [G] garage band first.
She was checking out [D] riffs, having a ride on the course.
She didn't carry [C] a home for the [G] football [D] hero.
Didn't even [Em] notice the [C] basketball [D] star going out [C] and speaking for [G] the Rolling Pundits hero.
[A] That's the [Dm] one who played that guitar.
[Ab]
[Gm] Girls with [C] guitars.
She [G] wasn't any deaf tom.
Girls with guitars.
[D] She didn't [C] go out for [G] cheerleading.
Girls with [C] guitars.
[G] Boys were soaring in nerve sound.
Some of them are.
[C] She went off to [F] college.
She got her [G] degree.
Her parents gave her science grades in need.
[C] Daddy's making love.
[F] Mother's making [Bb] medicine jars.
Wondering how [D] she's going to make the news today.
[Gm] [C] [Gm]
[C] [G]
[Dm] [Gm] [C] [Gm]
[G] [C] [Gm]
She was an old city [C] fan, sitting in the driveway [G] filled to the gills [Dm] with all [G] her stuff.
[Gm] She caught a deal with her [C] brother.
He was [G] driving up the highway, because New York's shade was close enough.
[D] Gets the [C] audition through a [G] friend, a fellow [D] friend.
She's kicking out her [Em] legs saying, [C] this will never [D] work.
[C] Fat cat [G] turns to [A] the band, gives a little grin and [D] she blows [Bb] away the tune.
[G]
[Gm] Girls with [C] guitars.
[G] Everybody's hopping now.
Girls with [D] guitars.
It ought to be a [G] song about girls.
[C] [G] There's just no stopping.
Girls with guitars.
Girls [C] with guitars.
[G] Everybody's hopping now.
Girls [D] with guitars.
It ought to [G] be a song about [C] girls.
So I [G] wrote this one.
[C] [G] You get your money, but I'm running out of gas.
