Hi everybody, I'm Marty Stewart and [Bb] I spell country K-S-O-N.
By far the best part of [Gb] stagecoach.
Should we just be sitting back like this?
I'm just irritated [Bb] that Marty did need reading glasses.
Oh I do.
How did you do that?
I made it till I turned [Bbm] 50 and one day I was reading this, looking at the CD cover and I'm like,
Man you are [Bb] bluffing.
It's time to go see the dude.
[Gb] So you got LASIK for that?
No.
Oh.
No, [Bb] he's got me some glasses.
Oh.
Thanks for the big bluff.
Yeah but you did that without glasses.
[Bbm] See I can't read that.
That's my problem.
So the best thing about stagecoach is to have our [Gb] iconic performers here as well.
Marty Stewart is one of them.
It's great [Bbm] to see you again man.
Glad to be back.
Welcome back to stagecoach.
Well I love Southern California and I [Gb] love stagecoach because,
you know the thing that was cool about this festival from day one is there's something in it for every kind of country fan.
If you're into [Bbm] roots music and fiddle songs or all the way up to the most contemporary [E] sounds of country music,
they [Gb] got you covered.
Just come on down and there's something here for you.
What do you do to keep yourself looking so young?
And then awesome hair?
You look freaking great man.
[Bbm] Well I finally learned to go to bed.
Sleep is everything isn't [Bb] it?
I haven't been to bed since 1972 when they were like,
You know this needs to take a turn here.
Do something about it.
Since 1972.
I like it.
So Marty I'm going to have John just back out for just a second.
I'm making my morning show partner [Eb] leave.
You're used to it Marty Stewart.
I'm bringing my husband in and there's a [Gm] very good reason that we have to do this.
This is Kurt.
[F] Oh Kurt how are you?
Nice to [E] see you again.
[Bb] So honey you've been with me forever you need to talk on the mic.
I'm right in there.
Let's see how I tell him what to do.
[Bbm] But Marty is responsible for something.
Could you please share that story?
Quite possibly a [Gb] 21 year old relationship.
[Bb] Well come on.
Tell me more.
Madison, Wisconsin.
Alright.
Just outside of Madison.
Chris Grant Theater.
We were just [Bbm] hanging out upstairs from your concert watching and then we just got the mood kicked in.
We were in a private room watching your show looking down at the stage.
Might be very well responsible for our first child.
[Bb] I am so honored.
I don't want to shake your hand.
I'm honored.
Must have been a boring [F] show.
No [Eb] you have to understand.
Until they started.
We were [Bbm] dating 6-7 months.
Oh okay.
And in that time you're just super [F] passionate right?
And things just I don't know it just happened.
Well it looks like it worked [Gm] out.
And it did [F] work out.
I'm honored.
5 babies.
[Bb] 1 grand baby.
Isn't that great?
It's all because of you Marty Stewart.
You know [F] here's the bottom line to everything.
When your heart finds a [G] home that's when [F] things kick in.
That's when it [Bb] really goes you know.
And my [F] story is kind of different.
I didn't have anywhere [Bbm] to go but I was only 12 years old.
But Connie Smith my wife came to my hometown to Philadelphia Mississippi to sing.
[F] And she was my mother's favorite singer.
She had a lot of hits going at that time.
She [Bbm] wanted to do with her life at that time.
So that was a big night in [Bb] our house because Connie was my mom's favorite singer.
And I asked mom to take me to the Seward's department store and buy me a yellow shirt.
So Connie Smith [F] would notice me.
[Bb] Oh good move.
Yeah but it didn't work.
But I got my picture made with her that night.
Me and my sister got our autograph.
But on the way home I [F] told my mom I said I'm going to marry Connie Smith.
[Bbm] And 25 years later I did.
See.
But when your heart finds a home you say how do I look so good?
[F] Well I'm happy.
That helps.
Nice man.
That's it.
Totally true.
I [Bbm] also remember, Kurt doesn't remember this but [Bbm] I remember.
Because Kurt back in the day was a very snappy dresser.
[Bb] That's what's now Kurt's doing.
Well no.
I think it [F] looks alright.
He's in Kurt Rochor's whole thing.
Because he's your first age coach.
[Bbm] It's hot.
But he's always dressed impeccable.
And you noticed the shoes he was wearing.
And it was something with the design on the shoes.
And you're like dude I like your shoes.
[Bb] And you said my grandfather had a pair of shoes like that.
And Kurt went oh.
And [F] you were like no, no, no.
My grandfather was the bomb.
And they were awesome.
Because I'm staring at your [Bbm] boots which have always been amazing.
Well apparently it worked because [Bb] upstairs it turned you right on in.
We started knocking from what I understand.
That's what happened.
[Bbm] Five kids son.
Five kids.
One grandson who has [F] just turned three.
That's awesome.
So [Bbm] thank you.
My pleasure.
It's an honor.
It's great to see you again.
It's great to be back.
[Gb] Thanks for being so good to us and being so great to country music for all your [Bb] careers.
Hey, I love country music.
And so you guys have been waving the flag down there at the south end of the state for a long time.
So I'm proud of you two.
Right on.
Marty Stewart just said he's proud of me. He is.
How about that, dad?
I want to say one thing, though.
I love how you can tell people who grew up in the south because you say make a picture.
Make a picture.
Make a picture.
There you go.
I'll never [Bbm] forget because it was Vince Gill and we were at the first CMAs we had ever gone to.
So we were like, okay, we belong here.
This is awesome.
And Vince was talking to some fans and we happened to just by being stupid end up in the wrong spot where everyone was coming out.
All the stars were coming out.
We just pretended like we belonged.
And Vince handed me a camera and said, would you make a picture with us?
And it was the first time I had ever heard [Eb] that expression.
Instead of take a picture, it was make [Bb] a picture.
And I noticed anyone who is from the south, that's what you say is make a [C] picture versus take a picture.
Well, I can tell you, photography has always been a big part of my [Bbm] life.
I love photography.
And I'll tell you how long I've [Eb] been in country music.
When I first started, it was like, you know, old Minolta [Ab] cameras and Brownie Hawkeyes and the disposable [F] cameras and down through the years.
And I'm happy to [Bb] report that country fans are finally learning how to work their cell phone.
Right.
[Ab] That was a [A] learning curve for the entire country music audience right there.
[Bb] We're looking good.
Guys, thanks for having me on your show.
Oh my God.
Anytime.
[Ab] You're responsible for my [Gm] happy life.
Well, there you go.
Thank you.
I'll take [Bb] full responsibility for that.
Is that for Kirk?
Yeah, that's right.
[Eb] Marty Stewart with John Teddy and Kirk. Hey!

Hey!
Good morning.
My eyes are closed to
