Marc Bolan - Kings of Glam - Part Two chords
Start Jamming...
[G] Glamrock had arrived, [D] Hot Love [Em] was its first number [A] one
and
the press had [G] a new catchphrase.
[D]
[A] Hot music saved me from my environment.
I wanted something else, something beyond regular life.
And I got that around about 11
when
I first was introduced to Matt Bolin and T-Rex.
And this mystical thing happened to me where a doorway was open.
You're so sweet You're so fine
It just let me know there was [E] something else going on out [F#] there.
He weren't sure even what it was.
He couldn't [D] even give it a name.
There's [A#] something in the way he will glitter on his [A] face
the
way he was kind of effeminate.
It's hard to believe now, but it was very shocking at its [G] time.
How grand [F#] does it taste to fall [C] in love
[B] Mark's pantomime [A#] stage persona caught [A] everyone's eye.
I think everybody's parents were a little bit shocked
with
feather boas and wearing make-up.
Very feminine.
[F#m] June, his [Em] wife, was responsible really for his look.
I mean, I don't think Mark got that look together.
It was all to do with June.
When it came to wardrobe and make-up
I
think glam styles had women behind them, egging them on, really.
He was kind of a boy-girl, you know, or a girl-boy or a boy-girl.
You know, what?
What was he?
And that was the fun of glam [A] rock.
I'm gonna [Em] dream it all up
With that [E] squirm factor, you kind of watch it with your parents.
And if everyone's squirming uncomfortably
you
know it must be [F#] something good.
I'm [A] gonna dream it all up
Certainly there's been a [Em] change in England in two years.
[C] And we are part of the change.
I mean, [B] guys now can wear make-up.
They can shout and [A] scream.
You,
[Em] you
[A] Most of my [E] mates, even at 11 or 12, would look at Mark Bowling
and
you wouldn't think, you know, puff or something like that.
You'd think, God, he's gonna pull the girls I wanna be like.
You are a [G] girl
[Bm] [E]
Selling [Am] records was all Mark cared [D] about.
And now [G] he had a follow-up to write.
[D] [Em] Yeah, I remember I was walking down the corridor in a [D] hotel
and
[E] he had his room opposite me and he stuck his head out.
I said, you got any drums in your room?
I said, well, I have, actually.
I've got a snare.
He said, I'll bring it down.
And he went through this riff, Get It On.
Hey
He said, will you reckon?
Yeah, it could be all right.
You're dirty and sweet, [A] glad and black
Don't need back and [E] I love you
[A] You're dirty and sweet, [E] oh, yeah
Get It On was Mark's second number [Em] one in the U.K.
T-Rex had turned into a pop [G] monster.
Ooh, [C] the children of the [Am] revolution
[B] In the next three [G] years, he would have three [C] number one albums
and
ten [Am] top five hit singles.
I remember backstage at Wembley, we did these two concerts
and
Ringo Starr was the director of it.
He said, as a Beatle, I've never seen anything like this.
He says, those [G] girls are crazy.
[Em]
And they were.
Fame and adulation had a noticeable effect on the ambitious Starr.
[A] Fancy size, fancy clothes Everybody
It
[Em] went bigger than anyone could believe at times
and
then eventually [N] you start to believe it a little too far.
And he already had that in him anyway, with or without it.
He already had that confidence and that swagger.
[Am] He was totally selfish, [G] in a nice way.
I mean, I'm not saying he was a bad person.
But he was all about me, me, me, me all the time.
And there was really nothing worth talking about
unless
it pertained to his career.
What's up?
Did he know what he had when he had it at the time?
I have to wonder.
[C]
Whatever [F] happened to the T [C]-Rex 3?
[E]
By 1974, Mark Starr was [C#] waning.
His [C] original teen fans [A] had grown up and moved on.
[F] New teenagers were looking for their own [Gm] heroes.
When the T-Rex singles started to [A] sell less
I
think that was quite traumatic for him.
And the combination of getting quite pudgy
and
starting to drink too much [G] brandy and starting to do cocaine
I
think he just lost his way, you know.
He was only ever meant to be a star for kind of three years.
He had his moment in the sun.
I don't think it was ever gonna last anymore, but he couldn't handle that.
Life's a game
[E] He [D] was stuck in some [G] kind of teenage dream.
And I hope it's gonna last You're right.
[C#m]
[G] Put the radio on.
And last night, and the news and also last night
Pop
star Mark Boland killed in a car crash.
On the 16th [Em] of September, 1977
Mark
Boland and girlfriend Gloria [G] Jones
were
involved in a serious car accident.
[Em] Mark died instantly.
My reaction [G#] was one of [Fm]
stunned disbelief.
And it shook [G] me up [C] a little bit
because
[G#] Mark, apart from being [A#] a client, was [F] a friend.
I was dancing when I was [C]
out
You know, I mean, it was kind of unbelievable.
It [G] really affected me.
[D#]
I felt a really [Em] sad loss.
[G] I dance myself right out the [Em] womb
He was like James Dean, you know.
Like, [F] you know, die young and leave a good corpse.
[G] He had that fascination with that.
And he talked about it a lot, and unfortunately he got it, you know.
And my mom raised him well.
I'm alive here, and I'm proud.
But, you know, I know for sure he wished he would
I know for [A] sure he wanted to [Em] live.
