MAJOR TO MINOR: What Does "This Magic Moment" Sound Like in a Minor Key? chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everybody, before this video I wanted to say something really quickly to my newer subscribers.
I know many of you found me because of my recent high note challenge videos,
and I want you to know that full versions of Into the Unknown and Chandelier will be available
when I upload the new high note challenge video later this month.
Also, I wanted to give a quick explanation of my other series of videos called Major to Minor.
It's how I got my start on YouTube over six years ago,
and it's still one of my favorite musical concepts to explore.
What I do is take a song that's originally in a happy sounding major key,
and transpose it into a sad or intense minor key.
I take some liberties with the arrangement and instrumentation to further magnify the change,
but for the most part the vocal melody stays true to the original, except for the key change.
And I usually build the song in intensity throughout with a big, epic sounding cinematic ending.
Anyhow, I think it's really interesting to see how a song's lyrics and overall feel
can take such a drastic turn when you put it in a minor key.
And if you have any suggestions for a song I should do next, let me know down below.
For this Major to Minor, I took on the 1960s oldies R&B song
This Magic Moment, originally recorded by The Drifters.
[B] Oldie songs are really fun to do for this series,
because [Eb] the original is usually really bubblegum and happy sounding,
and I have such a good time seeing how sad, [Dbm] intense, and dramatic I can make it sound.
[Gb] Anyhow, here it is, my Major to Minor of [Abm] This Magic Moment.
Hope you like it.
